Job summary

1We are looking for a skilled and experienced Surgical Respiratory Physiotherapist to join our friendly, busy Respiratory Physiotherapy Team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust. This is an 18 month secondment cover, to work closely alongside the Prehabilitation band 7 Physiotherapist.

There is plenty of opportunity for service development within the role and a strong focus on education .

This post is fully supported by the Therapy Leads and other clinical leads. You will work alongside a skilled MDT team and a very supportive consultant network.

We are looking for a team leader who can provide decisive and effective Physiotherapy input. Someone who is motivated to develop the surgical service, whilst delivering effective, up-to-date evidence-based treatment.

This is a part-time post working 30 hours per week on an 18 month fixed term contract. This role includes flexible working across 7 days with participation in our weekend and respiratory on-call service.

Main duties of the job

To provide a highly specialist Physiotherapy service to patients in the establishment of a surgical service at Royal Cornwall Hospital.

To provide Specialist assessments, treatment and goal setting with patients pre surgical interventions with complex presentations and/or co-morbidities to optimise patients to help patient flow.

To develop the Physiotherapy pathway service provision for surgical patients, research and implement innovative ways of working for patients. This could be group work or using technology.

To develop relationships and working practices alongside the surgical inpatient team to optimise input at the appropriate time for the presentations of these patients.

To work alongside the Surgical Prehabilitation Lead, delegating tasks equally to effectively manage, change and develop clinical areas, while maintaining highly specialised knowledge and competence.

To work alongside the Inpatient Therapy Manager, the Therapy Lead, and the Professional Lead, in planning, co-coordinating, delivering and evaluating the service.

To highly develop specialist skills and aid the guidance of Senior staff.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registered
  • Evidence of further formal study

Desirable

  • Membership of the CSP
  • Membership of appropriate clinical interest groups

Experience

Essential

  • Comprehensive experience in an acute hospital setting, including a range of post qualification rotations at Band 5 and Band 6 level
  • Ability to demonstrate highly developed leadership skills
  • Highly developed skills in managing staff, including managing challenging behaviours
  • Highly developed communication and presentation skills
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
  • experience of on call and out of hours working
