Job summary

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to recruit a Fixed Term Consultant Radiologist to be based at Worthing Hospital to join our current team. The post is available from October 2024 for a fixed term of 1 year.

Main duties of the job

We welcome applications from Radiologists with a subspeciality interest in Muskuloskeletal Imaging.The successful applicants will support existing services at our Acute sites plus non-acute as we expand into our new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) sites in Southlands and Bognor Regis.

The successful candidate will join a team of Consultant Radiologists and Radiology Fellows, in a modern and progressive Trust, with a reputation for high clinical standards and performance.

Job responsibilities

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will join a strong multidisciplinary team providing both General and Specialist support to the Trust.

  1. Undertaking sessions as detailed in job planning and sharing in the general work of the department.
  2. Individual responsibility for the safety, privacy and dignity of patients in their charge.
  3. Working cohesively with other members of the radiology team to provide an efficient and effective service.
  4. Providing consultation and advice on the appropriate imaging in conjunction with clinical staff.
  5. Participating in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  6. Participating in the general professional training of medical, nursing, radiographic and other staff.
  7. Participating in discrepancy and clinical governance meetings
  8. Instrumental in departmental and inter-departmental clinical audit.
  9. Actively participating in evaluating and co-ordinating clinical trials in conjunction with colleagues and the Research and Development department.
  10. Undertaking administrative duties associated with the work of the post and the Radiology department.
  11. Participating in the on-call rota.
  12. Ensuring continuous professional development and keeping up to date with job planning, mandatory training, appraisal and the revalidation process requirements.

Participating in, or expert clinical advice to, service re-design and quality improvement initiatives.

Person Specification

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • oBasic medical degree
  • oFRCR or appropriate specialist qualification
  • oFull GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • oCCT in Radiology or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • oEntry onto the GMC Specialist Register within 12 months of starting the role

Desirable

  • oHigher Degree including masters or doctorate
  • oHigher qualification such as MRCP / MRCS etc.

Clinical Skills & Experience

Essential

  • oRelevant post registration experience
  • oExperience in clinical radiology and cross sectional imaging
  • oSkilled in all core radiology procedures including ultrasound, cross sectional imaging, fluoroscopy and plain film

Knowledge

Essential

  • oAppropriate level of clinical knowledge / up to date
  • oKnowledge and use of evidence based practice
  • oFull understanding of IRMER regulations
  • oUp to date knowledge and use of PACS and RIS
  • oEvidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • oBreadth of experience in and outside specialty

  • oAble to organise oneself and prioritise clinical need
  • oExperience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
