Job summary

An opportunity has come up within the Low Secure and CAMHS Division for a qualified Social Worker. This role works in partnership with the wards and associated multi-disciplinary teams to provide good quality care and support to patients and their carers. Taking the lead with carer engagements, safeguarding and statutory Social Work activities, you would be joining a high achieving and committed social work team

Main duties of the job

You will have a recognised Social Work Qualification and ideally experience of working in Mental Health and Mental Capacity Legislation; as well as Safeguarding Adults Legislation and practice, to include the undertaking of safeguarding investigations.

There is an expectation that you will seek to develop your skills in your specialist area and that you will also hold a full case load.

St Andrews Healthcare Social Workers must be registered with Social Work England and there will be opportunities for training to ensure registration. In addition, there will be regular supervision, an annual performance review and opportunities for development.

Job responsibilities

Purpose of Role: The post holder will support service users and their carers through a range of aspects through treatment during their stay. Key Responsibilities: To manage a workload as agreed by the Lead Social Worker and MDT. To undertake work as agreed in relation to The Mental Health & Mental Capacity Act. To prepare and present reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals and Managers Hearings. To prepare and present Social History reports and reports for Clinical Reviews. To attend relevant multi-disciplinary meetings and liaison with community social workers, other agencies and professionals. Engage in 1-1 and group work with service users and maintain up-to-date records in clinical notes of all service user contacts. Liaise with service users families / carers and other statutory / voluntary agencies. Undertake child visit and home visit risk assessments making recommendations to the MDT. Lead on planning for service users discharge and aftercare arrangements including aspects of safeguarding and multi-agency public protection arrangements. Identify, visit and assess resources that may be considered appropriate for service users moving into the community and or other residential settings. Adhere to MAPPA processes, making referrals and attendance at MAPPA meetings where appropriate. Undertake S42 enquiries as directed by the Local Authority. Lead on the day to day co-ordination of safeguarding. Attend and take an active part in Social Work team meetings. Regularly attend prearranged supervisions with Lead / Senior Social Worker with prepared agenda items.

  • Professional Qualification Currently registered with Social Work England
  • Some experience of working with service users in mental health / learning
  • disability settings and some understanding of the legal framework in relation to
  • this vulnerable group
  • Be comfortable working in a secure environment with people who have complex
  • needs and may present high risk
  • Adaptable, enthusiastic, flexible and tolerant
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and confident in negotiation
  • with other agencies
  • Ability to prioritise case load
  • Ability to work under own initiative, but also seek support from senior colleagues
  • Able to use supervision provided by Lead or more senior social workers
  • Good verbal, written and IT communication skills with a range of individuals
  • Good record keeping
  • To support the Social Work team in referring and managing safeguarding
  • incidents
  • Ability to prepare and present reports confidently
  • Ability to demonstrate an awareness of equality issues and commitments to the
  • aims and objectives of policies on employment and service user care
  • To work within social work codes of practice in an ethical manner, with empathy
  • for service users and their families.
