Job summary

Are you a Band 6 or 7 Dietitian with an interest in eating disorders? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a one-year fixed term maternity cover post, open to candidates at Band 6 or 7 level, depending on experience.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Dietitian specialised in eating disorders to join our team. The postholder will provide highly specialised dietetic input to adult inpatients and day unit patients undergoing treatment for eating disorders at South West London and St. George's Mental Health Trust. The successful applicant will manage a caseload of adults with eating disorders, conduct dietetic assessments, deliver therapeutic interventions, and work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team. Additionally, the role includes providing nutritional advice, education, and training to nursing staff, doctors, dietetic students, and other healthcare professionals. Main duties of the job

To provide a highly specialist dietetic service to adult inpatients and day unit patients receiving eating disorder treatment at Springfield hospital.

To act as a source of expertise on the dietary management of eating disorders to the multidisciplinary team

To provide education and training to nursing staff, doctors, dietetic students and other health care professionals, as well as service users, carers and families on nutritional issues relating to mental health.

To ensure that there is dietetic advice to support the monitoring of the Trust's catering contracts and delivery of a positive patient experience at mealtimes.

To work across the ED service and provide cover as necessary depending on service needs

Job responsibilities

  • To undertake clinical assessments and appropriate dietetic intervention for service users within adult eating disorder service at Springfield Hospital. This may include formulating individualised management and treatment plans ensuring optimal outcome whilst minimising risk; and complex enteral feeding (PEG and nasogastric feeds).
  • To communicate effectively with service users, carers and families. This involves giving dietary advice with multifaceted emotional, physical and psychological problems where acceptance is potentially difficult. This will also occasionally involve working in conditions requiring the ability to react sensitively where service users have a history of physical, sexual and / or mental abuse.
  • To work autonomously within the eating disorders team
  • To run group teaching and menu planning sessions on dietetic issues for service users, carers and families to aid recovery from their eating disorder
  • To write, implement and monitor guidelines for management of patients with eating disorders admitted to the acute hospitals and advise junior staff responsible for their care
  • To promote awareness of the role of the dietitian within the services, negotiating priorities where appropriate.
  • To work effectively as a team member of the dietetic service, providing a flexible service, covering as appropriate other dietetic services. This will include complex enteral feeding (PEG and nasogastric feeds) and emergency cover for the adolescent inpatient EDS when the dietitian is on leave i.e. new unplanned admissions or enteral feeding

Qualifications

Essential

  • oDegree in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • oHCPC registration
  • oEvidence of continuing professional and personal development

Desirable

  • oMember of the British Dietetic Association and the Specialist Mental Health Group
  • oCounselling skills training
  • oCompleted BDA course on Eating Disorders

Experience

Essential

  • oPost graduate experience with significant experience working at specialist level
  • oEvidence of and experience of working with mental health service users
  • oExperience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • oExperience of working with service users with eating disorders
  • oDietetics experience related to food provision and catering

Desirable

  • oExperience of using Cognitive behavioural techniques
  • oEvidence of participation in audit/ research
  • oLived experience of mental health problems
  • oExperience of providing clinical supervision for junior dietitians
  • oExperience in the development of Dietetic services
