Physician Associate - Acute Medicine

The Trust is looking to recruit a Physician Associate to join an already established dynamic, driven and team orientated cohort of physician associates working across the Trust and in particular with our acute medicine colleagues in AMU and Same Day Emergency Care unit.The role entails working with Consultant Physicians within acute medicine.The PA will provide expert assistance to the consultant physicians and their teams in the provision of a high quality service to patients. The post holders are expected to participate in all aspects of the patient pathway as appropriate and will be expected to perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge.You will be part of the PA's development program which is already established within the Trust to support and train you in a number of techniques and procedures.We are looking for forward thinking, enthusiastic and innovative practitioners who will be able to lead and motivate staff in the provision of high quality patient focused care.

Main duties of the job

The post holders are expected to participate in all aspects of the patient pathway as appropriate and will be expected to perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge.

They will be trained to assess and examine patients present them, initiate and interpret investigations, and recommend treatment. They will be expected to liaise with other professionals and specialties as required and complete necessary documentation relating to their patients

The Physician Associate willbe supervised by a designated consultant and will also have individual mentors to oversee their career development.

The Physician Associate will liaise closely with the senior nursing team within the trust. It is expected that the Physician Associate will become involved in all of theactivities of both AMU and SDEC including review of inpatients and assessment of admissions and will carry out practical procedures within the pathway.

Person Specification

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • BA/BSc Degree prior to undertaking PA program
  • PG Dip in Physician Associate Studies from a UK training programme
  • Current and valid certification or recertification by the Physician Associate National Examination (OR: if US trained, Current and valid certification with the National Commission on Certification for Physician Associates (NCCPA)
  • Registration with the UK Managed Voluntary Registry for physician Associates as soon as it is in place
  • Member of the UKAPA

Desirable

  • ILS, ACLS & PALS certification

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Essential

  • Awareness of current developments and initiatives in emergency medicine services.

Experience

Essential

  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
  • Ability to exercise sound judgements when faced with conflicting pressures
  • Ability to work cohesively within the multi-disciplinary team

Desirable

  • Experience of conducting clinical audit

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Essential

  • Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to regulations as well as work flexibly to meet the needs of the Trust
