Job summary
The Senior Clinical Fellow in Medical Oncology post is part of the Cancer Services directorate, where the post holder will be required to provide a high quality oncology service that aims to provide excellent patient care.
The post holder will be expected to manage his/her own work programme within the broad parameters of departmental policies and procedures and will be responsible for determining the associated work activities using their initiative.
We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Clinical Fellow in Medical Oncology to support the Oncology service during a period of maternity leave.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician to take on the new role of a Senior Clinical Fellow in Medical Oncology providing expertise in a specialised and generalist service being able to manage a full range of presentations independently. The individual will have the necessary Oncology skills to support the team in both clinic and ward patient management. The timetable would include independent clinics and ward visits with the acute oncology team.
The post holder will be expected to work closely with colleagues and management in developing the ability of the department to respond to operational pressures together with clinical governance and longer-term service strategies.

The ED is supported by Urgent Care Centres at Blackburn and Burnley and a Minor Injuries Unit at Accrington.
Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital is the regional Hepatopancreatobiliary centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria providing management for all aspects of HPB disease and major HPB surgery. The hospital is also a designated a Vascular and endovascular Centre for major complex arterial and venous surgery for Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Duties of the post
To see patients in review oncology clinics
To provide routine prescribing of protocol based SACT regimes
To deal with both routine and emergency attenders
To work as a core member of the hospital Acute Oncology team including review of patients on our Medical Assessment Units, and patients admitted to outlying wards
To undertake procedures as required for which procedure training will be provided if required, medical assessment for chemotherapy patients during their treatment as part of review clinics and on an as required basis
To be involved in complex clinical, patient management problems and multi-disciplinary planning treatment attending cancer MDTs if required
To ensure all dictation of clinic letters is performed within 24 hours (mandatory)
To use the Trusts Cancer Clinical Database to record all oncology annotations
To contribute to service developments
To participate in continuing medical education and clinical audits
To participate in the consenting and follow up of patients in clinical trials (with the appropriate Consultant supervision)
To provide support to the complaints process (this may include attending complaint meetings with patients, families and their relatives)
To participate in all areas of clinical governance monitoring including reporting, responding to incidents reported, liaising with management re risks that need adding to the cancer risk register
To undertake all mandatory training, including annual safeguarding training (in-house)
