Job summary

STEPS is looking for like-minded nurses who share the values and philosophies integral to the success of STEPS to join their ateam. You will encounter a number of different disabling injuries and illnesses and be an integral part of the team supporting clients to live as independently as possible. As a Rehabilitation Nurse you will be working closely with the clients, their family, and the Interdisciplinary team. You will be responsible for caring for the clients physical and emotional needs, following the nursing and rehabilitation care plans closely, whilst monitoring the clients progress throughout. These plans will need reviewing and changing to reflect the progress with rehabilitation goals. Rehabilitation nurses are fortunate enough to maintain high levels of clinical skills whilst also helping clients to exercise to gain strength, assist clients with adaptive devices and also act as educators and trainers within their role.

Main duties of the job

The Rehabilitation Nurse at STEPS is expected to assist their clients with personal care needs whilst supporting the client to be as independent as possible. Administer medications and undertake assessment for self medication. Our rehabilitation nurses are given support and training for advanced skills such as tracheostomy care, Cough assists, CPAP and bladder scanning. Attending goal setting and progress review meetings regularly for the clients - and reviewing and writing care plans as a result. You will be expected to help lead a team of Rehabilitation Assistants throughout your shift to ensure a smooth running of all scheduled therapy timetables.

As a Nurse at STEPS you will be ensuring that our clients receive high-quality, holistic nursing care throughout their journey with us. You will work as a key member of the inter-disciplinary team to support our clients, respecting their privacy and dignity and promoting independence. While you are carrying out your duties you will be aligned with STEPS values and behaviours at all times

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

To assess, implement and monitor individual care plans for our clients

To involve clients and carers in the development and delivery of goals within the care plan

To take the lead on the unit as and when directed to provide clinical leadership, support and guidance to other staff team members

To act upon and escalate issues as required following STEPS guidance and operating procedures

To administer medications and treatment as prescribed, monitor effects and report as defined

To be compliant with the clinical governance requirements operating within STEPS procedures

To be involved in clinical audits as and when directed

Carrying out all procedures relating to the personal care and nutritional needs of patients dealing with emergencies as required.

To undertake duties and responsibilities as defined in the work plan.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse on the NMC register

Desirable

  • Key trainer/train the trainer qualification.
  • Approved mentorship or teaching qualification
  • Qualification / short courses in staff management / supervision

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working in any aspects of nursing with a rehabilitation element, this may have been as part of a student placement if newly qualified
  • IT experience including Microsoft Office packages
  • Experience of working within governance frameworks e.g. clinical systems / data management / complaints untoward incidents
  • Demonstrable experience and working knowledge of the Data Protection Act

Desirable

  • Rehabilitation experience in any of the following areas; neurology, orthopaedic trauma, spinal injuries, complex poly trauma
  • Experience of training package development and delivery across relevant subject e.g. Data Protection / Clinical Training
  • Experience of audit functions
