Health Innovation North West Coast (HINWC) is one of 15 Health Innovation Network Organisations (HINs) established by the NHS in England to accelerate the spread of innovations. The post holder will work within the collaborative and well-regarded Coaching Academy Team, managing exciting and impactful programmes.

The Coaching Academy team within HINWC is seeking improvement and innovation coaches to support programme-specific patient safety and culture work. We need confident facilitators and programme managers to lead 6-8 month learning and development projects from start to finish. You will liaise with commissioning programme leads to inform mobilisation and engagement activity, develop content and learning experiences, coach teams through improvement cycles, and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the projects.

Main duties of the job

The Programme Manager will have responsibility for leading mobilisation, development, delivery, and evaluation of coaching and learning programmes across of a variety of improvement and innovation initiatives, allocated by the Head of the Coaching Academy and designed in partnership with stakeholders and commissioners.

There is a requirement to work collaboratively as well as independently and to timetables, adjusting for complex system challenges when needed. The post holder will build productive relationships with a network of partners and colleagues across the region, and with NHS England, NHSI and NHS Leadership Academy. They will have the capacity, experience and standing to impact on culture and improvement across a wide and varied community, including influencing decisions at board level.

The Programme Manager will ensure that the Head of Programmes is updated on a regular basis and will prepare responsive briefs required for specific purposes for evaluation and revision of Coaching Academy programmes.

The role will enjoy a degree of autonomy while being accountable to the Associate Director Innovation and Industry Partnerships.

They will have the capacity, experience and standing to impact on capabilities for spread and adoption and innovation culture locally, regionally, and nationally. The role may involve considerable travel across the geography of HINWC and nationally.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Drive and support the planning, management and delivery of key Coaching Academy programmes and projects across the North West Coast, including the development of plans with appropriate phasing timescales and budgets to ensure the Coaching Academy programme delivers against key project milestones using approved HINWC project planning approaches.

Adhere to systems for tracking and reporting to ensure robust financial management and enable accurate reports to be provided for commissioners, relevant committees, and the HINWC Board.

Build and maintain good relationships with senior staff in key agencies such as NHS England, NHS Improvement, NHS Leadership Academy, and other partnership organisations and networks.

Develop bespoke content for Coaching Academy programmes and workshops with an emphasis on Quality Improvement, innovation spread and adoption, and creating healthy, collaborative workplace cultures.

Lead specific education and development programmes, overseeing operational delivery, participant engagement, and programme design to curriculum specifications and gather evaluative data to inform future programmes.

Presenting to, training, mentoring and coaching staff across programme scope in Quality Improvement and innovation methods, tools, implementation science, and sustainability approaches supported by robust evaluation.

Supporting individuals and teams to develop and deliver their own improvement projects using agreed improvement tools and techniques by mentoring and coaching them throughout their projects.

Co-designing iterative development of programmes of agreed improvement projects and work-streams in support of organisational priorities. This includes:

o Diagnosing issues and developing robust improvement methodology

o Using the agreed improvement and innovation tools and techniques to lead by example in their effective use.

Ensure delivery of programmes to high standards. Develop supportive and sustainable learning curriculum and outcomes and collect relevant data for analysis and reporting.

Lead in the design and testing of measures, data collection plans and analysis of data for assigned programme and project learning and reporting purposes.

Manage regular, consistent communications of programme content and engagement opportunities using a variety of formats including FutureNHS (our online learning platform) and other collaborative tools.

Work with the Head of Programmes and the other Programme and Project Managers to develop materials to support the implementation of coaching approaches that reflect priority areas for spread and adoption and to co-ordinate education and coaching initiatives aligned with HINWC initiatives.

To support and contribute to activities of governance groups relevant to post holders work.

To provide expert resource to the Coaching Academy, maintaining a high level of current, evidence-based knowledge relevant to the post holders area of work.

To arrange and facilitate events, such as meetings, coaching sessions, workshops, etc. to maintain a high level of engagement and awareness of the work of the Coaching Academy.

Qualifications and Education

Essential

  • Education at Masters level or equivalent experience.
