Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Practice Nurse to join our friendly,supportive team.

This is a full time role but a job share would be considered.

Our clinical system is EMIS Web. We use Docman, DXS and other clinical applications to support our clinical system.

We are a 6 GP Partner, 2 salaried GP training practice based in Dartford with excellent travel links to the A2/M2, M25 and A20/M20 with parking onsite.

Main duties of the job

The practice nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of the practice.

The range of duties include but are not limited to:

  • Cervical cytology
  • Childhood immunisations
  • Dressings and wound care
  • Travel vaccinations
  • Chronic disease monitoring
  • Family planning

Applicants must have excellent communication skills and be able to work independently and as part of a team.

About us

We are a 6 GP partner and 2 salaried GP Training practice supported by a multi skilled team including clinical pharmacists, paramedics, physiotherapist and additional PCN roles.

We are part of Dartford MODEL PCN working closely with our PCN practices.

Job responsibilities

Job responsibilities:

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by GPs

Interest in Respiratory Disease (Asthma/COPD)

Interest in Diabetes or Coronary Heart Disease (desirable)

Cytology

Wound care / Ulcer care/Doppler/ compression bandaging

Travel Health

Removal of Sutures

ECGs

Venepuncture

Ear syringing

Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations

Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician

Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs

Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to GPs and other services as appropriate

Other tasks will include

- Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms, including stocking and rotating items as required

- Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses

- Participation in administrative systems in the Practice

- At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records

- Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required

- Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered first level nurse

Desirable

  • Relevant nursing/health degree, Mentor/teaching qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in Primary Care
  • Management of long-term conditions,wound care,cytology and child immunisations.
  • Involvement in implementing and using protocols and clinical guidelines
  • Experience of audit

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a GP Practice.
