Job summary

The Trust's cardiac services are spread across three sites, Hammersmith Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary's in Paddington. We also run busy community based cardiac clinics.

We are now looking for a motivated and enthusiastic physiologist who has proven working knowledge of EP or CRM (implantation and/or follow-up). The post would suit an experienced band 6 physiologist who is looking to further develop their EP and CRM skill base in a successful and fast moving EP & CRM centre or someone who is already a band 7 physiologist but would like a change of scenery and fresh environment in which to enhance and refine their EP and CRM skills.

We are a forward thinking and dynamic team of physiologists and the Trust's position as a tertiary centre for Electrophysiology, complex CRM and Interventional Cardiology ensures that each day is different and you will experience a varied and interesting patient case mix.

The successful candidate will be based mainly on the Hammersmith Hospital site but may be required to rotate across all three sites if, and when, needed.

There is also the opportunity for further specialisation in areas of interest as well as involvement in research within the department.

You will have a BSc degree in physiological sciences or equivalent and you will have gained IBHRE or BHRS certification in CRM or EP or be close to achieving accreditation.

Main duties of the job

  • As a specialist practitioner in Cardiac Physiology, to be able to perform a broad range of clinical-technical investigation procedures and/or interventions in the Cardiological field to a highly competent professional standard.
  • To possess advanced practitioner knowledge, skills and expertise in at least one specialist area within Cardiac Physiology, having a minimum 5 years postgraduate experience as a Cardiac Physiologist.
  • To assist the Senior Principal Cardiac Physiologist and the Principal Cardiac Physiologists in managing the various sections of Cardiac Services to provide the routine Cardiac Physiology clinical-technical services, including out-of-hours services where relevant.
  • Cardiac Services is part of the Division of Surgery, Cancer and Cardiovascular Services at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified as a Cardiac [Clinical] Physiologist (BSc degree or equivalent)
  • Higher academic qualification [IBHRE, BHRS, BSE ] or equivalent experience to this level
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development education in appropriate field(s)

Desirable

  • HCPC registration as a clinical scientist

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience in Cardiac Physiology, with at least 2 years specialising in a specialist field
  • Expertise and significant experience in the techniques listed under 'Skills & Abilities' above

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential

  • Being fully competent at ECG recording & interpretation, exercise ECG stress testing and ambulatory ECG monitoring
  • Ability to manage own workload, as well as that of others
  • Computer literacy to the level required to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the post
  • Ability to manage own workload, as well as that of others

Desirable

  • A level of expertise in another of the above specialist areas of Cardiac Physiology
  • Some supervisory experience
