Job summary

Vine Medical Group is recruiting for a full or part time Salaried GP to join our friendly and supportive team. We are based in Waterlooville, with a list size of 26,500 and keen to welcome another GP to our team.

The post-holder will provide a full range of medical services and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care.

We have both face-to-face and on-line clinics, as well as home visits, same day care and routine appointments. Our GPs have admin time structured into the working day. Our same day care is run via a structured triage service managed by our experienced call handlers with a GP Lead and ably supported by Paramedics, Nurses, and HCAs.

We work collaboratively in a dynamic two-practice PCN partnership (Strawberry Health) with a diverse team of MHPs, MIND Representatives, Care Co-ordinators and Social Prescribers who enhance the services we offer and provide specialist support to our diverse patient population.

Our salaried GPs have their own patient list once induction / familiarisation phase has been completed.

As a training practice we are always interested in supporting GPs with any special interests. Newly qualified GPs are offered bespoke support and mentorship, regular whole practice training sessions and peer review opportunities.

Main duties of the job

To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the GMS contract. Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

To see patients in accordance with the practice timetable, including consultations, visiting patients at home, as well as an equitable share of same day care and extended access appointments.

To be able to work and travel between any of our sites and visit patients out in the community.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. The main responsibilities are as follows:

  • Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract, additional and enhanced services where appropriate.
  • To see patients in accordance with the practice timetable, including consultations (in whatever format) and queries, visiting patients at home, as well as an equitable share of same day care and extended access appointments. Checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes in a timely manner to agreed standards.
  • Collecting data for audit purposes.
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions utilising EPS.
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
  • Supporting evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
  • Supporting the development of computer-based patient records.
  • Supporting the summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data.
  • Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within a busy GP Practice
  • Experience of working to standards / guidelines applicable to Primary Care e.g. NICE, prescribing, QOF

Desirable

  • Experience of working with online triage system (such as Anima)
  • Experience of EMIS Web and Docman medical systems

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • A good understanding of GMS contracting requirements and the operation of the Quality Outcomes Framework (QOF) process

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCGP qualification or similar and appropriate
  • Currently registered GP with the GMC
  • Registered on a medical performers list
  • Representation with a recognised medical defence organisation
  • Valid UK driving licence
