Job summary

The primary principle of this role is to provide a timely assessment of children and young people who present in crisis.To provide support, advice and education to the Emergency Departments/Paediatric wards/General Wards to build knowledge and skills of staff within these settings in the care and treatment of children and young people with mental health problems, and to ensure a timely and effective treatment and discharge.The post holder will be responsible to the Band 7 Team Lead and be expected to provide assessments and interventions to children and young people in a crisis.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Social Worker to become part of our developing CAMHS Crisis Liaison Service. The post holder will be responsible for urgent emergency assessments of children and young people presenting in crisis. The ability to make balanced decisions and use positive risk taking approaches, whilst managing potentially high pressure situations is an essential part of this role.

The post involves interagency liaison with local A&E departments and paediatric wards as well as with Child and Family Social Services, education and other agencies, as needed.

The post holder will also be responsible for providing Consultation and training within CAMHS as well as to outside agencies.

CAMHS Crisis are now offering a 24 hour service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and or knowledge

Essential

  • Professional knowledge acquired through Degree in Social Work. Evidence of relevant postregistration Continuing Professional Development. Specialist knowledge, skills and experience for working in the community within specialist area. Undertaken and maintain updates in restraint of patients/clients.

Desirable

  • Teaching and assessing qualification. Clinical Leadership qualification/training. Clinical Supervision qualification/training.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post-registration experience, including working with children and young people in a variety of settings. Substantial experience of working with children and young people with complex and diverse mental health needs. Experience of assessing children and young people, presenting with challenging, high risk behaviours. Ability to formulate risk management plans and programmes of care. Clinical and theoretical teaching in a range of contexts. Working knowledge of Clinical Governance. Evidence of implementing innovation and change in clinical practice. Evidence of undertaking clinical practice. Experience and management of working with families in distress and high expressed emotion.

Desirable

  • Experience in a range of clinical settings. Working knowledge of Primary Care Teams.
