Our service is evolving and we need enthusiastic, passionate Health Care Assistants to join the Assessment and Treatment in-patient unit at Townend Court. Townend Court is an inpatient facility for adults aged 18 years and over that have a learning disability. Learning Disability services have been changing and continue to evolve to meet the clinical demands of a modern inpatient facility.

You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team (mdt) which includes nurses, healthcare assistants, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and psychologists. The team have patient care and Humber Trust values at the core of their practice. The team are also keen to share their skills and experience with all staff members, making this an ideal post for individuals that are keen to embrace personal and professional development. As a health care assistant at Townend Court you will also work in partnership with the community learning disability teams in addition to external service providers.

Main duties of the job

The Health Care Support Worker role is essential in delivering high standards of care to inpatients at Townend Court.

Promote and provide person centred care in line with agreed care plans.

Work in partnership with the individual, their carer, families and the wider healthcare team.

Promote clinical effectiveness, safety and a good experience for the individual.

Talking and listening to patients and feeding this back to the Nurse in Charge/ wider MDT.

Be involved in person centred patient activities and supporting them with these both on the unit and in the community.

Supporting with personal cares and supporting and or monitoring dietary requirements and fluid intake.

De-escalate challenging behaviours/ situations which will be informed by the Positive Behaviour Support plan.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience
  • Working knowledge of physical or LD issues
  • Standard IT skills

Desirable

  • Willingness to undertake further academic development

Skills and Competencies

Desirable

  • Mandatory training for the management of violence and aggression

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of working within physical or mental health services
  • Competency in taking physical observations
