Advanced Practitioner (Diagnostic) - Clinical Radiography & Plain film Reporting

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Advanced Practitioner to join our friendly, supportive and dynamic team. We currently have 9 Advanced Practitioners, 5 of which report plain film MSK images and 4 which report chest imaging

We are a busy GDH, a leading Cancer Centre, leading Maxillo Facial surgical centre and also have a minimal invasive Cardiac Unit offering both Cardiac MRI and CT.

The Advanced Practitioner rotation is open to discussion and can include a dedicated rotation or a combination of the following: plain film, theatres, maxillo - facial, fluoroscopy, Interventional, Mammography, Cardiac Cath lab, CT and MRI.

Leadership and RPS experience would be desirable. Opportunities for CPD are well supported including management and leadership courses as well as clinical development. All radiographers are expected to contribute to the training of our students.

Main duties of the job

The department comprises of 3 general rooms, a 2 room A+E department, MRI, ultrasound department, digital fluoroscopy, Interventional suite, maxillo-facial unit, and digital mammography. In the newly renovated St Luke's Cancer centre we have a Siemens and GE Evolution CT scanner on which we run a radiographer lead CT colongraphy service.

In the main Radiology department, we have the GE Revolution and the GE Frontier CT scanners and work is currently being started to open up The Milford Community Diagnostic Centre which will be home to two additional MRI scanners and one CT scanner.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Dual role, part Advanced Radiographer rotating between clinical radiography and part Advanced practitioner in the extended role of Plain Film reporting. Work as a key member of the senior radiography team ensuring an efficient and responsive service to patients and users of the service. Perform clinical radiography, unsupervised and to a very high standard. Provide an efficient and responsive service to patients and users of the service Provide independent diagnostic reports on plain film examinations, working autonomously & making clinical decisions, which may have a direct impact upon the patients diagnosis, management & treatment To participate in the areas within Radiology as required. Dedicated rotation to specific modality will be considered (e.g. CT or IR) Work independently when providing services to patients requiring urgent imaging or acute illness & when making decisions regarding the urgency of the radiographic report. Supervise senior radiographers in relevant areas. Train and support junior radiographers, support ancillary staff and students, as required. May be required to deputise for modality leads with day to day service provision. Promote excellent working relations with staff across the Trust. To effectively contribute towards the delivery of a patient focused service by developing the plain film reporting service by ensuring all initiatives are derived from evidence based practice Be a proactive member of the Radiology RPS Team if required

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC registration
  • D.C.R or BSc in Diagnostic Radiography
  • Post Graduate certificate in plain film reporting

Desirable

  • Certificate of competence in administering IV injections

Knowledge

Essential

  • CPD - Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development
  • Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy/national guidance/CQC/ and appreciate the implications of this on engagement
  • Attendance of Red Dot course (or willingness to attend)
  • Experience post degree or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in cross sectional imaging & general radiography
  • Radiation protection
  • IR(ME)R 2018
  • Quality control
  • Has undertaken audit projects & acted on findings
  • Adverse Incident &Risk management
  • Knowledge of local & national targets & initiatives
  • Knowledge of CRIS & PACS systems

  • Experience of writing for publication
