Job summary
To work as part of the Occupational Therapy team in delivering a high quality and effective Therapy service to patients.
With guidance from the Occupational Therapist supports a caseload of patients within the Occupational Therapy service. Supports and assists the therapist in patient related service provision, working within a multi-professional team. Monitors team stock levels and completes associated administrative activities.
A flexible and adaptable approach is required to meet the needs of the service. NHS experience would be an advantage but is not essential

To support patient flow and effective discharge our service operates 7 days a week and the post holder will be expected to work some weekends and bank holidays. Use of own car is essential. Main duties of the job
Works independently within established competencies, guidelines, policies and protocols and follows instructions provided by the Occupational Therapist.
- Identify patients who may benefit from assessment by OT and take referrals from other health professionals, screening notes as appropriate.
- Contribute to organisation of planning the days and caseloads of all team members.
- Support other team members where two staff are required for assessments.
- Work independently when assessing and discharging patients.
- Adapt clinical practice in response to frequently changing circumstances.
- Flexible working required over seven days.

Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to GCSE (A-C in Maths and English) or similar level
- Minimum of two years working as a Band 2 Occupational Therapy assistant or similar experience
- Able to work as part of the OT team and MDT
Desirable
- NVQ or equivalent in health related subject
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Computer Literate - Microsoft word
- Able to work within guidelines and protocols
- Able to adhere to trust and departmental documentation standards
- Knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy and demonstrates an understanding of the impact of disability on the the individual
- Ability to liaise with other agencies, statutory public services or independent
- Ability to work on a regular basis
Desirable
- Working knowledge of electronic patient record
- Previous experience of working in a medical setting
- Understanding of common medical conditions and Terminology
