Job summary

You will be a vital member of our team and provide hearing assessments, hearing aid fittings and follow-ups for paediatric and adult patients both within the hospital as well as in the community. Opportunity to have a mixed role if desired, with the option to be involved with complex adult patients, adults with Learning Difficulties and vestibular clinics.

The position involves frontline patient contact and therefore highly developed interpersonal skills are necessary. The role provides a significant opportunity for a talented candidate seeking a more advanced clinical post as well as a position within the departmental senior team. We invest in further training and will facilitate further opportunities for motivated individuals.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform a range of diagnostic audiological tests in children and adults, as well as fit and fine-tune hearing aids in accordance with national and local protocols
  • Provide support for Joint ENT-Audiology clinics held at the main hospital (RUH) site and at outreach clinics
  • Carry out paediatric and adult clinics in community locations across the local area
  • Have a major role in developing the RUH paediatric audiology service
  • Demonstrate own duties to others and provide training to junior clinicians, when required
  • Recognise problems beyond own area of knowledge and expertise and refer onwards or seek advice as required
  • Update own professional knowledge-base of current protocols and recommended procedures
  • Contribute to local departmental audits as well as research and development

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Audiology OR BTEC National Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement and BAAT Parts 1 & 2

Desirable

  • MSc in Audiological Science/Audiology plus CAC/CCC OR STP in Audiology
  • Advanced courses in Audiology
  • British Sign Language Qualifications
  • Member of British Academy of Audiology and/or British Society of Audiology

Professional registration

Essential

  • Eligible/Registered as Clinical Scientist with HCCP, or on the voluntary register with RCCP

Driving licence

Desirable

  • Full UK driving licence and access to vehicle

Experience

Essential

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of paediatric audiology
  • Experience of paediatric hearing assessments and hearing aid fittings using REMS and RECD
  • Computer literate, experience with patient management software and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Oticon Genie fitting software
  • Experience with Phonak Target fitting software
  • Experience of working as an independent clinician

Desirable

  • Experience in electrophysiological testing
  • Experience with AuditBase
  • Knowledge of NHS service provision and pathways
  • Experience of fitting hearing aids to newborn babies
  • Experience of impression taking for newborns
