Job summary

We are seeking to recruit a full time Consultant in Respiratory Medicine. We are looking for an applicant with specialist interest in Sleep + NIV to join our forward-looking respiratory team. Acute respiratory services are centralised in Morriston Hospital, Swansea with additional outpatient services in the nearby Singleton and Port Talbot Hospital sites, all well supported by on site Respiratory Physiology and Radiology. We provide excellent quality patient care across a comprehensive range of Respiratory services.

The successful candidate will join 8 existing Respiratory Consultants and will contribute to the care of inpatients on the Respiratory ward (incorporating RSU) and the respiratory retrieval rota in Morriston Hospital. Currently Respiratory Medicine contributes to the GIM on call.

Main duties of the job

Our service incorporates a multidisciplinary team including Respiratory Nurse Specialists, Respiratory Physiotherapists & Pulmonary Physiologists. We work closely with our experienced Thoracic Radiologists and on site Thoracic Surgeons. Our junior doctor team includes 4 Specialist Trainees, 2 IMT3s, IMTs, clinical fellows, foundation trainees and 2 full time Physicians Associates.

As a Respiratory Team, we strive to provide excellent quality patient-centred care in a friendly, inclusive and supportive environment. We welcome applications from individuals who will bring new ideas and help develop the department further. There is opportunity to be involved in research and postgraduate and undergraduate training. There are strong links with Swansea Medical School. There is a generous financial Welcome Payment available in addition to relocation expenses.

The successful candidate will lead the sleep service for the Health board. The role is supported by physiologists and an MDT. Two existing consultants also manage patients on NIV and a there is a dedicated team of CNSs. There is an MDT for difficult cases. There is an acute NIV bay on the Respiratory ward (RSU) with day-to-day management from the duty Respiratory Physician.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered with the GMC
  • Licensed to practice
  • On Specialist Register with GMC (including via CESR/European Community Rights) as a specialist in Respiratory Medicine or eligible for CCTCESR/CP within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam or a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB or a primary medical qualification and recognized specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register
  • Valid Certified Basic Life Support Skills (or equivalent international qualification)

Desirable

  • Relevant Higher Degree e.g. MD; PhD; MSc
