Consultant in Adult & Paediatric Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia.
The Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Clinical Group, part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a full-time Consultant in Adult & Paediatric Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia.
This is a replacement post, based at The Royal Brompton Hospital. The Anaesthetic clinical role will involve provision of anaesthetic support to adult and paediatric patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery, interventional cardiology, radiology and interventional bronchoscopy procedures. There may be a requirement for preassessment clinic-based sessions.
The post holder will provide clinical services in Anaesthesia in accordance with clinical and legal requirements and in keeping with the international role of the Trust.
Applicants are required to be fully registered Medical Practitioners and must be on the GMC's Specialist Register in Anaesthesia or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide clinical services in Anaesthesia in accordance with clinical and legal requirements and in keeping with the international role of the Trust.
The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the adult anaesthesia on call rotas, after appropriate orientation and dependent upon previous experience.

- To work within the Anaesthesia team to provide clinical service.
- To contribute to the out of hours on call service for adult anaesthesia dependent upon previous experience.
- To participate in Clinical Governance, Audit and Quality Improvement initiatives within Anaesthesia.
- To seek and maintain professional qualifications.
- To maintain current knowledge of Anaesthesia and Perioperative medicine and to participate in a recognised programme of continuing medical education and professional development.
- To set and maintain high professional standards.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Essential
- Technical and clinical skills required for Adult Anaesthesia
- Evidence of active involvement in governance and audit
Desirable
- Understanding needs of service development
Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 12 months experience in Adult cardiothoracic anaesthesia
Desirable
- Experience in Transoesophageal echocardiography
Qualifications/Training
Essential
- Full GMC registration
- Basic transoesophageal echocardiography training
- FRCA or equivalent
- On Specialist Register in Anaesthesia or within 6 months of eligibility at interview
Desirable
- UK, European or American Qualification in transoesophageal echocardiography
- Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
