Job summary

Applications are invited for a 10 PA consultant post in the Autonomic Department at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN). The post holder will focus on Autonomic Neurology and provide a range of treatments for patients presenting with autonomic nervous system complaints within a multi-professional clinical setting. The post holder is expected to be involved in developing new Autonomic Care Pathways along with other members of the interdisciplinary team. The post holder will work in a team of fellow consultants, specialist registrars, autonomic clinical nurse specialist, autonomic scientists and researchers.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have experience in diagnosis, investigation and management of autonomic disorders and be encouraged to take forward academic and research developments. They will also participate in teaching and training of students, fellows and registrars and contribute as educational supervisor of specialist registrars.

Candidates must be registered with the GMC and on the Specialist Register for Neurology at the time of interview

Person Specification

Professional Qualifications

Essential

  • On GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attainment of CCT in at the date of the interview. NB: For non-UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register and Specialist Register by date of Interview.
  • MD, BS (or equivalent MRCP

Desirable

  • PhD or MD or equivalent specialist training

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Experience in managing adult patients with autonomic disorders.
  • Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of autonomic diseases.

Clinical Skills

Essential

  • Experienced in diagnosis, investigation and management of autonomic disorders.

Desirable

  • Can demonstrate that they have the skills to work within an interdisciplinary / Mult speciality autonomic service.

Clinical Governance, Management, and IT

Essential

  • Evidence of having worked and being able to communicate within an Interdisciplinary / Mult speciality service with appropriate levels of communication through direct discussions with team members, MDT meetings, and presentations to the team.
  • Involvement in and understanding of the Clinical Audit process, Clinical Governance and Management. IT skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of using Epic
  • Evidence of being able to engage and communicate at a National and International level.
  • Able to engage and work with management as appropriate for a consultant that wishes to become an active member of the Trust

Research, Teaching Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Track record of research, publications
  • Understanding and knowledge of Research ethics

  • Evidence of grant applications and successful achievement of grant income.
