At HFEH Mind we ensure we understand the needs of our community so that we can tailor our response accordingly by providing appropriate services. In response to this and government plans for expansion and provision an exciting Crisis Café referred to as Circle is being developed by HFEH Mind as part of the newly established Complex Needs Hub.The purpose of the Circle is to help alleviate mental health and wellbeing during heightened arousal or crisis through supportive therapeutic provision within the local community facilitated by the Circle team.

This Team Manger role would suit either a Health Care Professional (HCP) who is an established leader/manager or an experienced operational manager with a proven track record working with stakeholders in a Third sector voluntary agency, the NHS, statutory agency or other similar organisation. The ideal candidate would have worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team or operational managed a consortium or group of services simultaneously. Experience in promoting MH wellbeing services, involvement with crisis/acute MH presentations or working creatively on effective evidence-based de-escalation for CYP in the community will be an added bonus.

Main duties of the job

The Circle Team Manager role is a core part of the HFEH Mind Complex Needs Hub providing flexible and evidence-based episodes of crisis care and treatment to young people aged 5 - 18 presenting to Circle. This role will include having an overview and taking the lead in all mental health support and psychoeducation facilitated by the Circle for CYPs who are experiencing acute crisis. The Circle Team Manager will work in partnership with, and other agency leads to formulate strategies to alleviate MH Wellbeing in acute crisis using short term evidence based therapeutic treatment modalities grounded in psychosocial models of care.

The aim of the service is to provide psychosocial, holistic support in crisis to help de-escalate crisis presentations, problem solve difficult circumstances, guide mental health self-management and subsequently alleviate mental health wellbeing for all children and young people aged 5-18 accessing the service.

You will facilitate this by leading the drive for a systematic, collaborative individualised needs-based psychosocial approach to children and young people mental health fostering specific key relationships.

Job responsibilities

  • Having both therapeutic and operational oversight as the lead of the Circle team assessing or delegating the assessment of clinical skills required to ensure the delivery of a safe and high-quality service by identifying gaps and plans to address these issues
  • Ensuring consistent high standards of care and containment to service users attending the hub including risk reduction and instigating remedial action where required.
  • Overseeing all interventions utilised in the Circle and lead all areas of strategy and service development with direct and indirect supervision of the youth services director.
  • Establishing and maintaining evidence-based practice including the development of relevant evidence-based interventions within the Circle service context
  • Providing appraisals, clinical and management supervision the Circle team; establishing and facilitating responsive case consultation and mentoring for all members of the Team.
  • Manage day to day clinical risks and clinically advise team members on courses of action.
  • Developing and maintaining care and referral pathways that support improved outcomes for children, young people and families referred to the Circle.
  • Auditing the documentation of all staff members ensuring that the team follow systems of safe practice and adhere to operational policies
  • Ensuring that all recording and reporting of client contact is accurate, up to date, within Circle, HFEH Mind & professional requirement standards of record keeping and of good quality.
  • Ensuring that data and individual clinical information on clinical activity is collected and accurately entered onto the CYP IAPTUS clinical recording system in a timely way by all team members.
  • Ensuring that the staff and service take account of service user views in their day-to-day practice and are respectful of diversity.
  • Implementing and reviewing new service local protocols, audit and development and updating the wider service on any changes.
  • Ensuring that conditions of service and HR procedures are followed within the Team, including monitoring staff activity, managing capacity & performance.
  • Contributing to the effective functioning of the team and service through chairing/leading relevant meetings, taking responsibilities within the clinical service as appropriate and negotiated with the service development manager and youth services director.
  • Monitoring and improving the standard of service delivery of the team through the implementation of clinical governance procedures such as audits and the development of protocols.
  • Contributing to the effective functioning of the service through the introduction of innovative evidence-based clinical practice with the agreement the Director of youth services.
  • Creating digital resources and taking the lead in developing and embedding the Circle within the local community.
  • Assuming overall responsibility and quality assurance for all reported clinical outcomes and data submission as requested by the youth services director.
  • Monitoring progress against access targets for Circle service delivery, ensuring that KPIs are met and there are working plans to address any gaps,
  • Deliver evidence-based early interventions for CYP aged 5-18 with moderate emotional and mental health difficulties
  • Attend clinical and management supervision with theDirector of Youth Services
  • Overseeing all safeguarding supervision and support for all Circle team members, in line with relevant organisational safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Leading and providing oversight on the screening/triage process for CYPs aged 5-18 referred to the Circle and ensuring appropriate referral receipt utilising agreed service thresholds and clinical risk assessment.
  • Ensure adherence to organisational policies and procedures and that interventions are developed and delivered in accordance with NICE guidelines and clinical standards
  • Lead on coordinating and communicating service delivery with relevant stakeholders, promoting the active involvement of children, young people and their families in planning and implementing care delivery.
  • Undertake continued clinical professional development and ensure that relevant CPD opportunities are identified and provided for all Circle team members
  • May be required to travel across boroughs within London (predominantly Hammersmith & Fulham, Ealing and Hounslow) where required and agreed with supervisor or team manager for the purpose of Team representation, redeployment or specific service user needs.
  • Where agreed following a risk assessment facilitate the transportation of CYPs from other community sites including A&E or schools within the borough to Circle for interventions or appropriate support within the service constructs.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Working knowledge or management experience within services targeted at Children and Young people.
  • Experience of using, collecting and interpreting routine service outcomes to inform service development/expansion.
  • Some understanding of child development and psychosocial influences on MH presentations.
  • Experience engaging a range of stakeholders and involving service users and commissioners throughout service planning and delivery
  • Excellent leadership, problem solving and communication skills
  • Organisational skills and excellent time management
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office package
  • Some training or skills training delivery experience.
  • Experience of working within the construct of specific guidelines.
  • Possess excellent communication and listening skills with the ability to tailor messages to a variety of audiences.

Desirable

  • Direct experience delivering CBT/DBT/Systemic interventions for CYP aged 5 to 18 with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
  • Experience in managing a multi-disciplinary team and providing supervision or case management
  • Direct clinical experience (autonomously providing assessment, developing treatment plans and delivering a range of short term therapeutic interventions) with children and young people aged 5 to 18 with mental health difficulties presenting in crisis.
  • Experience of working collaboratively to alleviate crisis presentations through appropriate containment and support the coproduction of alternative responses and behaviours.
  • Knowledge of systemic, cognitive and psychodynamic theories and clinical appropriateness.
  • Good knowledge of CYP safeguarding in a community setting.
  • Operational management of a Community MH team.
  • Experience using CYP IAPTUS data management system and reporting into NHS Digitals Mental Health Services Data Set (MHSDS)
  • Experience working in A&E, Home Treatment Team or other Community Crisis team.
  • Experience of working with and providing therapeutic interventions for CYPs presenting with difficulties in language and speech, motor skills, behaviour, memory, learning, or other neurological functions within the context of a formal Neuro Developmental Disorder diagnosis including ADHD.
  • Experience in using CYP IAPTUS patient record system.
  • Experience of working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Experience engaging school professionals including SLTs, educational psychologists and SENCOs.
  • Experience in coproducing activities and campaigns with young people.
  • Experience of working within a multi disciplinary team
  • Experience of managing teams that use non verbal and verbal de escalation techniques with CYPs experiencing heightened stress or distress
  • Experience working in partnership with other agencies to achieve a common goal.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Must have a minimum 18 month post qualification experience of working children and young people in a mental health service as an HCP with relevant professional registration.
  • OR
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years experience as an Operational Manager with relevant CYP mental health qualifications preferably educated to Post Graduate level.
