Job summary

This an exciting opportunity for a nurse to join the special needs nursing service working 37.5 hours a week, Term Time only (0.89 WTE).

You will be part of the dynamic and forward-thinking Special Needs Nursing Service in Manchester. We require two autonomous Band 6 nurses, who can independently manage a caseload of complex CYP within Special Needs in both specialist school and community settings.

You will assess, plan and implement delivery of care needs within SEND schools. You will deliver training around complex health needs and offer health promotion tailored to CYP with SEND.

To act up in the absence of the team leader and be responsible for maintaining agreed policies and clinical standards following agreed criteria.

You will assist in the development of the team and development in designated areas of practice in conjunction with the team leader.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a Registered Children's or Learning Disability Nurse to join our Special Needs Nursing Service, part of Manchester's Children's Community Nursing Team permanently.

We are looking for a proactive, motivated and enthusiastic nurse with experience in community care and/or experience with children and young people with Learning Disability, Autism and Complex Health Needs.

You require excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills and can deliver evidence-based nursing care to children within a school and community setting. To be a team player and support colleagues and team leaders as required.

We deliver specialist health promotion to CYP with SEND. You need to be passionate about improving the health outcomes for this cohort of CYP and confident in health promotion.

The Special Needs Nursing team support children in Special Needs Schools and Community settings, citywide. You will need to be a car driver and owner and be able to cover the whole city.

You will be part of a forward-thinking and friendly team and you will be supported to develop professionally.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Sick Children's Nurse (RN Child) (RSCN) and/or Learning Disability Nurse
  • Two Years Post Registration Experience
  • Preparation for Mentorship

Desirable

  • Evidence of post registration professional development/first degree or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Leadership Qualification/Experience

Skills/Knowledge and Understanding

Essential

  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the health and nursing needs of children and young people, including complex behavioural, social and emotional needs
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of current health promotion targets and ability to deliver health promotion adapted to SEND population
  • Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner with experience of case management of complex young people
  • Experience of multi-agency working
  • Knowledge of SEND and health responsibilities
  • Ability to work creatively and flexibly in a clinical context
  • IT literate
  • Knowledge of vulnerable children and young people and experience in children's safeguarding

Desirable

  • Knowledge of factors which increase disabled children's vulnerability
