Schoen Clinic Newbridge are looking for a Lead Occupational Therapist to manage a defined caseload of young people with eating disorders using evidence based and client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. You will lead the OT team to ensure effective and high quality delivery of the group programme alongside individual patient and family support.

Main duties of the job

As a Lead Occupational Therapist you will need to ensure familiarity with the Occupational Therapy Pathway at Newbridge House whilst ensuring you have the ability to carry out, and supervise others to carry out the range of occupational therapy assessments, interventions and group work.

Schoen Clinic Newbridge is a highly specialised treatment hospital for children, teens and young adults aged 8-18 years with eating disorders such as bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa and OSFED. We widely regarded as one of the best eating disorder hospitals for children, teens and young people in the United Kingdom. Schoen Clinic Newbridge is based on the outskirts of Sutton Coldfield, just off the A452 and 4 miles from the local train station.

We provide inpatient care and private short-stay options for children and teens aged 8-18 years and also offer a day care treatment programme where patients attend on set days, during the day.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Working with patients to identify occupational therapy goals as part of the overall care plan.

  • Planning and implementing individual and/or group interventions, in collaboration with the patient, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.

  • Monitoring and evaluating treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of the intervention.

  • Ensure that up to date electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with professional and Newbridge House Policy.

  • Delegate work as appropriate to Occupational Therapy team, monitor, review and provide additional support and training as required

  • Provide clinical supervision to junior colleagues, or delegate appropriately to experienced senior Occupational Therapists.

  • Undertake annual appraisals with junior colleagues, or delegate appropriately to experienced senior Occupational Therapists.

  • Understand and exercise a personal duty of care for use of resources i.e. clinical and educational materials.

  • Oversee the use of and recording of the OT budget.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working as a Senior Occupational Therapist in mental health and/or CAMHS.
  • Experience as a clinical supervisor.
  • Evidence of CPD.
  • Experience facilitating and reviewing group work.
  • Experience as a student educator
  • Knowledge of current best practice in occupational therapy in eating disorders.
  • Experience of using standardised assessment tools.
  • Experience communicating effectively with a range of people and conveying complex and difficult information.
  • Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance and the performance of the OT team.
  • Ability to keep accurate, up to date clinical records and statistics.
  • Ability to critically evaluate research and to apply findings to practice.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding legislation and implications for practice.
  • Understanding of national guidelines and legislation related to health and social care.
  • Experience chairing meetings and disseminating information.
  • Understanding of equality and diversity issues.
  • Money handling and budget recording skills.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working with young people with Eating Disorders
  • Experience of completing written risk assessments.
  • Experience of working with young people with Autism.
  • Experience of undertaking audits and/or research.
  • Experience presenting at conferences.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Experience of Health and Safety, Quality Assurance and risk management.
  • Experience of being a budget holder.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Dip COT/BSc OT/MSc OT
  • HCPC Registration
  • RCOT Registration

Desirable

  • Relevant specialist training e.g. MOHO, EMPSA, Sensory Integration, ADOS
