Job summary

This is a full-time post within the Oral and Maxillofacial department supporting the Head & Neck pathways for Skin cancer, Oculoplastic and Mohs surgery. The role gives an exciting opportunity to consolidate and improve the treatment of skin cancer of the Head & Neck as part of a multidisciplinary team.The postholder would be expected to undertake training/development in Maxillofacial and Oculoplastic theatres. Mohs surgery runs twice per month. The role also includes outpatient clinics and minor operations in an Outpatient setting.

Main duties of the job

The Postholder will work alongside the current team to provide high level treatment for patients.Other duties will include.

o Liaising with GPs and other external providerso Responsible for providing clinical services in line with Trust policyo Teaching and training responsibilities commensurate with an Associate Teaching Hospitalo Provision and planning of the services to meet service agreements. The successful candidate will be expected to work in liaison with other members of staff in other clinical departments.o Within Clinical Governance principles the appointee is responsible for maintaining a high-quality service with regular audit, risk assessment and complaint handling. This will be underpinned by the annual appraisal.o They will be expected to participate in rotational commitments along with other senior colleagues to provide full clinical services in OMFS.o To be responsible together with other surgeons for developing the multi-disciplinary team.o To achieve the required reduction in waiting times for consultation and treatment.o To contribute to the effective functioning of the Department as a key member of the OMFS team and assume responsibility, both singularly and corporately, for the appointment, management and education of junior medical staff.o To participate in multidisciplinary meetings.o Support implementation of the Clinical Strategy.

A continuing responsibility for the clinical care of patients. Delivering a high-quality responsive service to the patients Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of current surgical procedures. Participating in the training of Specialist Registrars and Clinical Fellow Participating in OMFS audit. Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of the Patients.

Essential & Desirable

Essential

  • Full GMC registration
  • Independent operating for minor skin cancer procedures
  • Experience and understanding of Clinical Governance

Desirable

  • CCT in OMFS/Oculoplastic/Plastic surgery/ENT
  • Experience in skin cancer reconstrction
  • Evidence in participation in audits
