Job summary

As part of its commitment to delivering high quality clinical placements to medical students, St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint 3 Junior Clinical Teaching Fellow .

The Trust is the main Teaching Hospital linked to St George's University of London and plays a significant role in medical student teaching. These posts and similar posts in other specialties have been established to enhance the teaching of medical students in the Trust and St George's Medical School.

These posts will be linked to General Surgery.

Main duties of the job

Applicants are invited to apply for the post, which will normally be for a period of one year, renewable by mutual agreement.

More than 50% of the post holder's time will be spent on undergraduate teaching activities. The remainder of the week will be used either for clinical work to develop the individual's career, to complete a research project and to support the core training surgical on-call rota 1:18 in General Surgery. Part of this time will also need to be allocated to further develop teaching skills and to register for the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Education course, which takes about a session per week.

Applicants should demonstrate broad clinical experience and candidates with experience in teaching and a wish to continue a career in academic medicine would be preferred.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidates will play an important role in the development and delivery of clinical teaching to medical students on the St Georges University MBBS programmes. Teaching will include tutorials and lectures (including on virtual platforms), bedside teaching sessions, clinical skills courses, simulation, clinical PBLs and where relevant, supervision of the Student Grand Rounds and involvement the Hospital Medicine Grand Rounds. There will be opportunities to develop new teaching material. You will be actively involved in examination and assessment. Administrative tasks will include feedback sessions with the students, timetabling and liaising with Consultant staff to maximise the use of clinical resources across the Trust.
