Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a General Paediatric Consultant to join the Medical team at Calderdale and Huddersfield foundation Trust .

The postholder will be expected to work a 10 PA contract, in general paediatrics.

As well as being able to provide clinical expertise in all aspects of paediatric care, the postholder will also need to be able to demonstrate excellent clinical, communication and leadership skills, whilst demonstrating compassion, flexible thinking and the ability to prioritise a highly demanding workload. The postholder will need to be an excellent team player, with motivation to strive for excellence.

Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining specialist registration at the time of interview and must possess a Licence to Practise.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working with the existing team of paediatricians and expected to contribute mainly towards Consultant of the week cover for General Paediatrics and provide on call for General Paediatrics. The duties also include Outpatient commitments, out of hours twilight cover (as stipulated by the Facing the future standards) and General Paediatric Consultant of the week cover.

About us

The post will be based at Calderdale Royal Hospital, Acre Mill Outpatients, at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, and from January 2023 at our new child development and community hub in Elland. There may be opportunity for some remote working, as agreed with the Clinical Director and General Manager.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Applicants must be Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise
  • All applicants must have Specialist registration for Paediatrics (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK) but consideration will be given to applicants with relevant consultant level experience or trainees in a UK training scheme who are within 6 months of attaining specialist registration

Desirable

  • Relevant higher degree

Experience and Achievements

Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of the Paediatrics specialty

Desirable

  • Also, should have significant minor Paediatrics procedures experience and any other post graduate qualifications that can advance the department needs would be preferable
  • Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
  • Attendance at a recognised management course
  • Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions

Teaching and Training

Essential

  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.

Desirable

  • Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
  • Training in clinical and educational supervision
