Job summary

Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA) requires a 1.0 WTE (10PAs) Consultant Clinical Immunologist for our Biochemistry and Immunology Department to join our dynamic team.

We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic and motivated applicants for this post, based at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH). The EPA Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology encompasses three laboratories: the hub at NNUH, and two spokes, James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEKH).

EPA is the 6th largest UK laboratory in volume of tests, serving a population of more than 1,000,000 and processing approximately 15 million immunology and biochemistry tests annually. The Department employs 130 WTE staff and EPA has an annual budget of approximately £29 million.

The Immunology laboratory is fully UKAS accredited. The approval of this Consultant post aligns with our strategic commitment to ensure ongoing adherence to ISO standards.

We offer an extensive array of immunology tests, clinical activity assistance, and comprehensive research support.

The hospitals are situated within convenient reach of London by both road and rail. Norwich is a delightful place to live with a fantastic coastline, beautiful countryside and villages, outstanding schools and two magnificent cathedrals.

The successful applicant will be supported with up to £8,000 pro rata to cover relocation costs.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to provide Immunology service to the EPA Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology Department, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the Department. The provision of service will be based at NNUH, with responsibility for providing Immunology expertise through clinical liaison, participation in clinics and MDT meetings (details to be agreed).

The post holder will be expected to participate in Research and Development activities within Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology, and within the Trust and the University of East Anglia as appropriate, and to develop databases to enable research and audit.

The Consultant will be actively involved in the training of specialist registrars, clinical biochemists, biomedical scientists, other health professionals and students of medicine and allied professions.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
  • FRCPath in Immunology/Allergology (by Examination). or show evidence of appropriate higher qualification
