Job summary

Staff Nurse Band 5: To provide excellent nursing care by developing skills and competencies to care for critically ill patients. To act in a responsible manner, demonstrating respect and kindness to others, in accordance with the trust values.

We are looking for Band 5 nurses (no previous critical care experience required) who would like to work on our cardiac critical care unit

Cardiothoracic Intensive Care (CTICU):

A fast paced 21 bedded tertiary referral unit, cares for both emergency and elective patients from a broad range of specialties including cardio thoracic surgery, cardiology, vascular surgery and chest trauma. Seasonally we provide advanced respiratory care to medical patients requiring isolation. This spacious, modern unit promotes evidence-based practice and prides itself on excellent inter professional collaboration.

Main duties of the job

Band 5 Critical Care Assessment Centre and interview day will be held onTuesday 30th July 2024to recruit for our Band 5 Foundation Course intake starting Monday 4thNovember 2024." We do not hold individual interviews.

Successful candidates will start on our inhouse Foundation Course- please note- no A/L may be taken for your first three months.

You must havea strong desire to care for critically ill patients. We provide a three month supportive educational programme Foundation's of Critical Care Nursing Course (FCCNC) at the beginning of your employment, to facilitate your development and clinical skills competency within intensive care. (No A/L may be taken during your first 3 months)

Once completed there is the opportunity to undertake the University based Critical Care Course (Intensive Care), and to rotate to one or both of the other adult units. ED and Paediatric or Neonatal ICU or Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT) to further develop your practice.

You must have a minimum of one year's current nursing experience as a qualified nurse working in an acute care ward or department.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (adult)
  • 6 months -1 year current post-registration acute care experience

Desirable

  • Undergraduate degree Masters level study

  • Prioritise and organise own workload and the workload of other more junior staff.
  • Ability to use resources effectively
  • Recognise changes in patient condition and escalate appropriately

  • Critical care experience

Knowledge

  • Ability to assess, plan and evaluate patient care according to the needs of the individual.
