Job summary

Our Junior Clinical Fellow post is intended to provide between 6 to 12 months of Emergency Medicine in a major trauma centre. It is aimed at early stage Emergency Medicine or trainees (ST1-3 level equivalent), or trainees undertaking an 'FY3' Year between Foundation Training and Specialty Training, looking to gain further experience in Emergency Medicine.

Our Junior Clinical Fellow post is designed to enable the post-holder to start/consolidate PEM skills in the well-supported environment of a friendly Emergency Department, while getting the bonus of being in a major trauma centre with exposure to a huge range of expertise and support.

We use the MN37 pay scale with 1A banding for our Junior Clinical Fellow posts.

We expect every Junior Clinical Fellow to get involved with some projects in the Department(e.g. guideline development, teaching, and audit) but we understand that everyone has different goals for their CV and career development. We can support you in getting a publication, a poster presentation, or to discuss any specific goals you have.

Main duties of the job

The posts will have clinical supervision on a day to day basis by the duty emergency medicine consultant and registrars. Each post holder will have a named educational supervisor responsible for developmental and pastoral supervision.

The post holder/s will be ultimately responsible to the Clinical Lead for Emergency Medicine.

Clinically the post holders will work within a broad clinical team including Consultants inemergency medicine, junior and senior trainees from both an emergency medicine and training background, clinical fellows, advanced care practitioners, physicians associates and emergency nurse practitioners.

The wider emergency department team includes a highly motivated nursing and admin and clerical team. The post holders will also work with the wider multi-specialty teams working in the emergency department.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent degree
  • Full GMC registration

Desirable

  • Up-to-date APLS certificate
  • MCEM, MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Other postgraduate degree

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years of postgraduate clinical experience including F1 and F2 years or equivalent

Desirable

  • Minimum 4 months of experience in either paediatrics or emergency medicine

Knowledge

Essential

  • Ethos of lifelong learning and a desire to continually gain and improve knowledge and skills

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching a range of audiences
  • Evidence of participation in clinical governance, quality improvement, or research activity
