Job summary

This is a permanent (10 PA) post, based at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will be provided with office accommodation and secretarial cover.

A computer with access to the hospital IT system is provided along with internet facilities.

Main duties of the job

The clinical duties of the post include the following:

The post holder's primary duty will be to take part in the management and day to day running of the department. The specialty doctor will work in conjunction with the Consultants and other members of the team.

  • Attend weekly treatment planning meeting
  • Attend consultant led in-patient ward rounds
  • Participate in leukaemia and occasional solid tumour & brain tumour clinics
  • Involvement in non-malignant haematology clinics
  • Support day care activity
  • Perform lumbar punctures and administer IT therapy
  • Perform bone marrow aspirates and trephines
  • Prescribe cytotoxic chemotherapy

They will share in the day-to-day supervision of junior medical staff in the department.

They will undertake to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues and undertake to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances
