Closing date

If you are looking for:

A team of friendly, supportive and motivated consultants

A department that prioritises high quality patient care, training and education

Patients with a wide range of emergency and critical illnesses

An opportunity to develop sub-specialty interests

A fair work life balance

Then, consider joining our friendly, dynamic team based here at Newham University Hospital. We are looking to expand our team of 16 consultants (3 with PEM sub-specialty training) with more dual-trained consultants. We pride ourselves on a consultant-led and delivered service and believe this is key to excellence in Emergency Care. Professional well-being and supporting a sustainable work-life balance is a priority in the department.

Newham University Hospital sees over 90,000 Emergency patients per year, with another 75,000 seen in a co-located Urgent Care Centre. There are Same Day Emergency Care Units within both the Adult and Paediatric departments, as well as an Ambulatory Medicine Unit for suitable adult patients run by the Medical Team. Newham ED is a Trauma Unit with strong links to the Major Trauma Centre at the Royal London Hospital, which is also part of Barts Health.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work across all areas of the department with dedicated clinical shifts within both the Adult and the Paediatric Emergency Department plus SPA time for both adult and paediatric areas of development, which can be tailored towards individual needs.

We are keen to ensure all our consultants are supported to develop, learn and maintain sub-specialty interests, e.g. Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Pre-Hospital and Community Emergency Medicine. Opportunities exist within the Trust for sessions working in the MTC plus sessions in Pre-Hospital Care as well as the Remote Emergency Access Co-ordination Hub (REACH) which provides virtual assessment of 999 referrals.

Paediatricians with sub-specialty training in PEM are also encouraged to apply and should contact Dr Claire Kirby, Clinical Lead for Paediatric Emergency Medicine to discuss this further.
