An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and hardworking Practice Nurse to join our friendly team serving 16,500+ patients.

This is a temporary position to cover maternity leave but may become permanent.

We are looking for cover 30-37.5hrs per week

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone with treatment room experience who can undertake wound care, cytology, ear irrigation, immunisations including travel health, NHS health checks and some long term condition reviews for hypertension, asthma & COPD

About us

Beechtee Surgery serves Selby, Carlton and Riccall patients. Applicants will need to be able to travel to our main site and branches. You will need to be flexible and adaptable to the demands of working in a busy practice. We are part of the Selby PCN

We have 4 GP Partners, 4 GP associates, 5 ACPs, 2 MSK ACPs and 2 mental health ACPs, 6 Practice Nurses and 3 HCAs. Our main surgery is in Brayton, Selby, with two branch surgeries - one in Carlton near Goole and one in Riccall near York. Although we are large we pride ourselves on being a close knit, friendly, supportive organisation.

We look after the needs of over 16,000 patients through a blend of telephone, online and face-to-face contacts.

We offer placements to medical and nursing students, as well as GP registrars and foundation years doctors, and pride ourselves on providing a positive work experience.

We approach Primary Care as a Multi Disciplinary team rather than a collection of individuals working behind closed doors. If you join our team you will work along side GPs, Advanced Practitioners, Paramedics, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, Mental Health Nurses, Practice Nurses, Heath Care Assistants, Social Prescribers, care co-ordinators, trainees (both nurse and doctor) and a large and experienced non-clinical team.

Job responsibilities

  • Offer comprehensive assessment and advice for health clinics, travel clinics, child and adult vaccinations and cervical cytology tests.
    • Undertake wound care management including ABPI assessment and compression bandaging techniques in conjunction with holistic lower leg assessment.
    • Undertake ear assessment and irrigation as appropriate
    • Identify changes to clinical practice according to local and national guidance.
    • You will undertake Long term condition reviews within your current competencies and actively contribute towards QoF
    • Document consultations within NMC guidance
    • Be able to use System One.
    • Nurse Triage telephone calls
    • Completing tasks and appropriate administration as required for patient care.
    • Participate in audit where appropriate.
    • Attend and contributing to Nurse Meetings and Tutorials
    • Professional development to ensure that you remain accredited with NMC and have adequate indemnity insurance (funded by the practice)
    • To ensure that you have completed all mandatory training.
    • Other duties as reasonably required.
    • Monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment.
    • Maintain privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
    • Maintain Infection prevention and control policies including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as per local and national guidelines.
    • Participate in annual individual performance reviews and take responsibility for own development and support others development.
    • Actively participate in clinical and practice meetings
    • Develop clinical protocols for the surgery and the team
    • Recognise the signs of child abuse, family violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse, addictive behaviours, suicidal tendencies and be aware of local referral procedures.

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • Nursing degree or other relevant nursing qualification
    • Experience in Cervical cytology
    • Positive attitude
    • Ability to multitask
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Experience in wound care management
    • Leg ulcer management including ABPI and compression
    • Experience in vaccinations including adult, child and travel

    Desirable

    • Qualification in Asthma, COPD, CHD
    • venepuncture
    • Experience in working in a GP Practice
    • Experience of working with SystemOne
