Job summary

To perform physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations of physical and psychological conditions, to provide a clinical diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or particular patient type, working under supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case review and case conferences. Access to advice and support from a more senior physiotherapist is available when required; clinical work is routinely evaluated.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

To be aware of and to highlight to your line manager any clinical governance issues pertaining to your role and practice.

With support and guidance from more senior staff to undertake an evidence-based audit or projects to further own and team's clinical practice within each rotation or post.To contribute to the delivery of health promotion activities within the service and wider Trust initiatives

You must be able to attend a Face to Face interview to be able to complete the practical element of the interview process.

Main duties of the job

  1. To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work and that work delegated to support staff.

  1. To assess patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multi pathologies: using clinical reasoning skills and assessment techniques to provide a clinical diagnosis.

  1. To utilise knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options to select and deliver a physiotherapy programme to individual patients and plan their successful discharge.

  1. To take responsibility for a delegated caseload, managing patients with a variety of conditions and pathologies

  1. Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.

  1. Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients and carers to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes.

Professional

  1. To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through CPD activities and to maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development.

  1. To implement knowledge of relevant evidence based practice, developing a more in depth knowledge of particular conditions and patient types according to the rotation/placement/post

  1. Where appropriate to assist in the clinical supervision of physiotherapy students as part of the team

  1. To provide support and guidance to TIs and assistant staff working as part of the team.

  1. Undertake an evidence-based project

  1. Participate in the staff appraisal scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with agreed personal development programmes to meet individual and service objectives.

  1. Undertake measurement and evaluation of own work and current practices through the use of evidence based practice projects, audit and outcome measures, either individually or as part of a team with more senior physiotherapists.

  1. Be an active member of the in-service training programme, attending tutorials, individual training sessions, external courses and peer review sessions as appropriate and as identified in own PDP.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HPC Registered.
  • Evidence of ongoing relevant CPD in portfolio

Desirable

  • Any other relevant qualifications/degree

Skills and abilities

Essential

  • Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner. Ability to prioritise and manage own work load in a busy environment with supervision
  • Good Clinical Reasoning / problem solving skills. Ability to process, manage and communicate sensitive information in relation to patient care and convey this in an appropriate and clear manner.

Experience

Essential

  • Broad under graduate experience in core clinical areas
  • Awareness of own knowledge and learning style.
  • Experience of working as part of a team

Desirable

  • Participation in project activity

  • Car owner/ driver with full valid UK driving licence and access to a car for use during working hours.
