Job summary

This role is for a band 7 Sonographer, rotating between the City campus, Treatment Centre and QMC campus. A great opportunity to work alongside a highly experienced team and develop new skills in a busy department. NUH provides both Obstetric and non-Obstetric services across the 3 sites which includes GP (AQP), outpatients, DVT/ vascular, and inpatient scanning, and a gynaecological scanning service for the Nottingham Treatment Centre.

There are 3 Ultrasound Clinical Specialists who will support and guide you during your induction period and beyond.

The Ultrasound Department is open between 8am-6pm Monday-Friday with potential additional lists at the weekend.

You will be accountable to the Ultrasound Modality Manager and the Diagnostic Pathway Assistant General Manager for Ultrasound, and as part of this role, you will work with a team of Sonographers', Radiologists and other specialties within NUH to ensure a high quality Ultrasound service to our customers.

To undertake ultrasound within your area of specialty.

Toobtain high quality diagnostic images

Triage workflow and patients in the area within which they are working by collaborating with colleagues to maximize departmental efficiency.

To establish and maintain a good working relationship with other members of staff and disciplines.

The Ultrasound service within Radiology, is part of the Clinical Support Division.

Job responsibilities

To be qualified to perform ultrasound examinations, independently performing and independently providing a diagnostic report on a minimum of 95% of all examinations.

The post holder will be required to work at the sites below:

City Hospital Campus,

Queens Medical Centre Campus

Nottingham Treatment Centre

To perform high quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations and provide a concise detailed report of the findings in accordance with the departmental protocols and procedures.

To explain procedures to patients in a manner that facilitates their full understanding of the examination, and to ensure that informed consent is obtained.

Effectively communicate the scan findings to the patient, having a caring attitude, display empathy and provide support when needed.

Effectively communicate scan findings to clinicians.

Maintain a good standard of self-discipline and follow NUH Values and Behaviours policy.

Assist the Ultrasound Modality manager in the management of the service as requested.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • B.Sc.Hons in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent professional body
  • Demonstrates a commitment to their own professional development and has evidence of CPD
  • Post Grad Diploma in Medical Ultrasound

Experience

Essential

  • To be able to work independently in all obstetric ultrasound
  • To be able to work independently in all General Medical ultrasound and all associated scans.
  • Experience of working within a team.
  • Is open to suggestions, ideas and new working practices with a team approach.
  • The ability to prioritise and manage own workload
  • Recognises own role as part of an effective team.

Desirable

  • The ability to perform and report gynaecology ultrasound

  • Lifting & handling of patients
  • Moving of ultrasound machines around hospital
  • Physical skills and precision are required to perform a range of ultrasound examinations including excellent hand eye co-ordination. Essential sensory skills would be sight touch and hearing. In addition, there is a need for dexterity manipulation accuracy and keyboard skills
  • Sit/stand for long periods whilst scanning, sometimes in a restricted and/or unnatural position
