Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee MSK Ultrasound Guided injection sonographer to join our team in a forward thinking radiology department at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

The post holder will demonstrate an increasingly higher level of expertise within the specialist service as they progress through their training, therefore becoming more confident and knowledgeable to provide advice, education and support to staff, patients, their families and carers whilst they uphold the Trust values.

The post holder will be practising under an agreed level of autonomy as a trainee advanced practitioner (tEP) within the designated speciality area to provide patient-centred clinical care. This will encompass developing skills such as advanced clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis and report construction within an agreed scope of practice throughout the directorate.

Main duties of the job

The primary purpose of the role is to carry out specified Ultrasound Guided MSK injection studies in a supervised capacity until signed off for autonomous practice.

To be able to utilise specialist knowledge of the Ultrasound MSK to undertake injection studies using specialist equipment.

To be able to demonstrate highly specialist knowledge of pathology of the MSK ultrasound

Provide high quality, comprehensively written reports.

Maintain imaging skills and competency in line with clinical expertise and the needs of the service where appropriate.

Independently prioritise patients and organise the workload from a variety of referral pathways to meet the needs of the service.

Directly provide practical training, supervision and assessment of under-graduates, postgraduates, and radiology registrars in training.

To provide specialised imaging, image interpretation, formal reports and advanced decision making in the area of clinical advancement.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to a minimum standard of DMU, PgC, PgD or a UK recognised ultrasound qualification.
  • Recognised MSK ultrasound qualification
  • Minimum of 2 years MSK ultrasound expereince
  • HCPC registered
  • Evidence of further professional development
  • Knowledge /understanding and competence to work under patient group directions
  • Willingness to undertake and achieve post graduate qualification in specialist area.
  • Basic life support

Desirable

  • Teaching & Mentoring qualification
  • Immediate life support training
  • Masters or UK recognised equivalent in Ultrasound

Experience

Essential

  • Suitable level of ultrasound experience.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Able to work independently, manage own workload and delegate appropriately
  • Evidence of involvement in the development of protocols and leading clinical audit

Desirable

  • Demonstrates specialist expertise underpinned by theory acquired through CPD
  • Evidence of additional training and courses attended.

Skills

Essential

  • IT literate/ Conversant with IT systems used for speciality.
  • Sound clinical reasoning & decision making
