JOB SUMMARY:

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Enfield Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team (ECRHTT) for a Band 7 Clinical Lead/Deputy Manager post.

The Enfield CRHTT is a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week service which provides urgent care for people experiencing mental health crisis as an alternative to hospital admission. The team views crisis as meaningful, a crossroads in someone's life. We draw on several different models to understand this including family/systemic perspectives and the recovery model. The CRHT is crucial in delivering urgent crisis resolution assessments and treatment for service users by assessing their needs and caring for them in the least restrictive environment. The service will also ensure effective gatekeeping of all service users referred to the service for admission to Hospital. The post holder will ensure a high-quality responsive service to service users and referrers.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Lead/Deputy team manager post is central to delivering development and effective operational management of the CRHTT.

The post holder will be expected to collaborate closely with the Team Manager, Service Manager, Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychological Therapies Lead.

The post holder is accountable for supporting the team manager with the allocation, deployment, prioritization and delivery of the service and for implementing and reviewing systems, policies, standards and procedures that ensure the provision of high-quality services within frameworks agreed by the Trust.

The post holder will work closely with the Team Manager to maintain the day to day running of the service, providing senior clinical input and support to the team, playing a key role in building internal and external interfaces, and contributing to the ongoing development of the Crisis Telephone Service to further improve patient experience and outcomes.

As a Clinical Lead/Deputy Manager, you will provide and develop a working environment and culture of trust, openness and effective team working, which fosters high morale, commitment and optimum performance among all staff and promotes their well-being, professional and personal development in line with service needs.

You will be expected to work a flexible shift pattern across 7 days, although working nights is not required in this role

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Managerial/administrative

To manage the single point of contact of referrals for people who are in mental health crisis within the London boroughs of Barnet Enfield and Haringey.

1.1 Have managerial accountability for the delivery of quality service for users of the ECRHTT

1.2 Participate in the recruitment, selection & retention of staff

1.3 Managing CRHTT roster to ensure CRHTT is adequately staffed from within agreed establishment.

1.4 Assist team manager with line management and budgetary responsibility for clinicians and admin

staff working in CRHTT

1.5 Be responsible for effective clinical and managerial communication systems to, from and within the CRHTT.

1.6 Ensure effective Triaging and screening of referrals and management of inappropriate referrals.

1.7 Provide expert clinical leadership to ensure a high standard of service to referrers and guidance to CRHTT

1.8 Work closely and alongside all trust inpatient and community services to ensure best use of

resources

1.9 Work in partnership with the Internal Teams across the Trust as well as external referrers

1.10 Liaising with professional external referrers and developing relationships e.g., GPs, police etc.

1.11 Ensure that there are effective support and supervision processes for staff working in ECRHTT

1.12 Ensuring that there are robust Clinical Governance processes in CRHTT

1.13 Managing complaints within Trust timeframes

1.14 Coordination and delivery of data, provision of clinical statistics relating to ECRHTT activity as and when requested

1.15 Ensure a safe and effective working environment for staff

1.16 Ensure effective implementation of all local and trust wide policies.

1.17 Aim to establish local resolution of all complaints.

1.18 Assist with the induction of new staff

1.19 Carry out any duties as delegated by the team manager

2. Professional/Clinical

2.1 Work to ensure time for good organisation of the CRHTT, supervision of staff and to be available to referrers, patients and their relatives as required.

2.2 Act as a role model to staff through clinical role.

2.3 Be responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards of clinical screening and decision making by the use of clinical example and leadership skills as appropriate.

2.4 Provide expert nursing leadership in the management of complex referrals.

2.5 Ensure quality documentation in patient records by CRHTT in line with Trust policy and NMC standard.

2.6 Ensure sound risk assessment of all referrals to inform clinical decision making and appropriate signposting.

2.7 Ensure regular auditing of CRHTT activity and staff management of referrals. Ensure appropriate reflection with staff via supervision.

2.8 Observe Codes of Professional Conduct as laid down by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)/Registered Body.

2.9 Ensure that all staff members are familiar with and observe the provisions of the Care Programme Approach and other appropriate legislation.

2.10 Receive both professional and managerial supervision.

2.11 Work with the Line Manager in the development and implementation of clinical governance initiatives and policy reviews.

2.12 Contribute to and support implement of the Nursing Strategy for the services.

Change management

3.1 To assist the senior managers and take responsibility for leading the process of changes locally to achieve full integration with other service.

3.2 To establish and maintain effective working relationships and promote new working arrangements with colleagues, staff, and other stakeholders as required.

3.3 To ensure effective training and to lead on team building, as part of the change management process, to promote an open, honest, supportive, forward and outward looking working environment, facilitating new ideas, suggestions or debate in relation to the service requirements

Person Specification

Qualifications/ Registrations

Essential

  • Registered with NMC as RMN, or Dip SW, or registered with HPC
  • Mentorship qualification or equivalent
  • First or higher degree in appropriate subject area to specialisation or equivalent
  • Evidence of relevant post registration training

Skills/ Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to identify health needs and facilitate appropriate access to relevant Trust services
  • Monitoring and evaluation skills
  • Possession and evidence of effective leadership skills
  • Ability and experience in managing/implementing local quality assurance systems in particular audit process
  • Evidence of excellent record keeping, experience of writing reports and acting as an advocate for service users

Experience/ Knowledge

Essential

  • Significant experience working within Mental Health Services at Band 6
  • Experience of working within a Mental Health Crisis service
  • Experience of working in a multi -cultural environment and of involving users and carers ensuring culturally sensitive practice
  • Experience of identifying, initiating, implementing and managing effective practice
  • Knowledge of a full range of therapeutic skills and approaches
  • Experience of working in a multi -cultural environment and of involving users and carers ensuring that nursing practice is culturally sensitive
  • Effective screening/triage skills in relation to care needs of service users and their carers
