Job summary

The Diagnostics Recovery & Transformation Programme is the largest single investment programme in the NHS in terms of capital and revenue.

The programme consists of a national team and seven regional teams with further resource devolved to ICS and diagnostic network level.

The National Specialty Adviser is responsible for providing clinical advice to the Diagnostics Recovery & Transformation Programme in the areas of Vascular Science, GI Physiology and Urodynamics as well as advice and support in the development of strategy and policy relating to the Diagnostics programme.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be accountable for leading all activities including, but not limited to:

  • Provide clinical leadership and advice to the Diagnostic Programme and Physiological Sciences Programme.
  • Identify operational productivity improvement opportunities and develop products to support this and inform suitable metrics to measure delivery.
  • Ensure that the projects remain aligned to NHSE and system wide objectives.
  • Secure buy-in and remove barriers to delivery, including working with trusts and relevant national bodies and societies.
  • Where appropriate form effective internal relationships and close working with the Getting It Right First Time and Digital programmes to ensure that work is aligned.
  • Attend service site visits across England to support service optimisation.
  • Support emerging physiological science Network leadership teams in the formation of those networks.

Essential Criteria

Essential

  • 1 Educated to degree level in a relevant medical vascular discipline or other Vascular Science, GI Physiology and Urodynamics science discipline.
  • 2 Experienced clinical practitioner with credibility and the ability to command the respect of all clinical and non-clinical professionals across primary, secondary and community care.
  • 3 Significant experience of working at a national or sub-national level as a clinical leader in the speciality
  • 4 The NSA is responsible for supporting senior leaders and national programmes with the provision of clinical advice including on improving population health outcomes and narrowing health inequalities within the field.
  • 5 The ability to build excellent collaborative networks and develop effective and mutually supportive relationships with key partners within and throughout organisations.
