SUMMARY
This is a post based at the Worcestershire
Royal Hospital, combining experience in a clinical specialty with teaching
commitments and experience. Teaching
opportunities include undergraduate teaching of Birmingham University medical
students and participation in the teaching of Emergency Medicine trainees at
ACCS and CT3 level, and foundation and GPVTS trainees within the Emergency
department. There are also opportunities
for supporting and participating in the training of ENPs and ACPs. A focus for this post will be developing
multidisciplinary resuscitation simulation training further, particularly
Paediatric and Trauma simulation.
Remuneration will be at the appropriate point on the specialist doctor
scale.
Main duties of the job
The post is suitable for trainees whose career would be advanced by the
opportunity to develop clinical skills along with specialist teaching skills.
It is designed for clinicians with three or more years of experience post full
registration that have worked in an acute speciality or taken part in the ACCS
programme. It might be of interest to
registered practitioners who are studying for a higher qualification, writing
up research, or applying for higher specialist training rotations, or any
combination of these. It may also appeal to higher trainees who wish to take
time out of a training programme, subject to the approval of the appropriate
Specialist Training Committee.
Each full time post
attracts a 40 hour contract: the post holder will have 32 hours for clinical
responsibilities and 8 hours per week for Education related activities.
There may be
opportunities to increase the number of hours dedicated to Education once in
post based on specific identified responsibilities. The above contract is a
guide.
The successful applicant
will form part of the ED Middle Grade rota, this an eighteen week rolling rota
as detailed below. There is teaching for Middle Grades on Wednesdays during
term time to mirror the teaching sessions ST4 and above EM trainees
attend. All doctors have named
Educational and Clinical Supervisors.

Job responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participating fully in all the educational activities of the department
- Assisting the Consultants in the day-to-day clinical care of the ED patients
- Managing the resuscitation room cases including leading the trauma and cardiac arrest teams
Co-ordinating, supervising and supporting the junior medical staff
Participating in the Clinical Audit programme and the quality control of the department
- Support the Trust in the delivery of a high standard of care and meeting Trust and departmental objectives by timely service and quality led clinical care.
Comply with relevant trust policies including those relating to data protection
Actively pursue professional development maintaining a portfolio of evidence so that you are able to participate satisfactorily the appraisal process in accordance with GMC requirements.

Qualifications
Essential
- Eligible for full GMC registration with Licence to Practise at the time of appointment
- MB ChB, MBBS or equivalent
- ALS certification- if expired, to re-certify within 4 months
- MRCEM (or equivalent) or first part of FRCEM
- Satisfactory completion of ST3 post or equivalent
Desirable
- Other advanced life support courses
- Postgraduate qualification
Experience
Essential
- At least 3 years full time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis)
- At least 1 years experience in Emergency Medicine or Acute Specialties
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency elective within speciality
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Confidence in leading cardiac arrests and resuscitation of trauma cases
- ALS Provider
Desirable
- 4 months experience in Emergency Medicine within the UK
- Experience in General Medicine, Paediatrics, and Trauma and Orthopaedics
- Experience of Audit
- Ability to practice evidence-based medicine
Teaching Experience

- Ability to organise and deliver teaching across the whole undergraduate curriculum
