The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK's leading providers of non-surgical cancer treatment, caring for a population of 2.4 million people across Cheshire & Merseyside, North Wales, the Isle of Man and parts of Lancashire.

Our flagship specialist cancer hospital in Liverpool opened in June 2020, supported by our hospital on the Clatterbridge Health Park in Wirral providing outpatient cancer treatment and supportive care, and our radiotherapy treatment centre on the Aintree Hospital site.Together, working across three sites and operating specialist chemotherapy clinics in four of Merseyside's district hospitals, we are able to deliver a comprehensive range of inpatient care, advanced radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other systemic anti-cancer therapies including gene therapies and immunotherapies. We also deliver a pioneering Treatment at Home and Work service; are the only facility in the UK providing low-energy proton beam therapy to treat rare eye cancers and host the region's Teenage and Young Adult Unit, (supported by the Teenage Cancer Trust).

Working with leading experts from The University of Liverpool and the Cancer Research UK Liverpool Cancer Trials Unit we strive to stay at the forefront of novel treatments and techniques to deliver more effective and personalised treatments than ever before.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 6 SACT trained nurse to work at our CCC - Wirral site on Delamere Day Case Unit. They will embark on a programme of dual training for both Oncology and Haematology systemic anticancer treatments. They must be highly motivated and willing to undergo training in the Haematology and chemotherapy fields.

As we deliver treatments in sector hubs and clinicsacross the Wirral and Liverpool, there will an element of cross cover required during training and once training has been completed. This will include travelling to all of our peripheral sites:

The successful applicant will support the team in a leadership role. They are required to be fully SACT trained with relevant SACT experience. They will support and educate junior staff and participate with educating and assessing.

ClinicalThe post holder will be:-

  • Responsible for safely assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care to patients attending the department
  • The safe administration of treatments to patients who require outpatient SACT and supportive therapies
  • To work autonomously and seek collaborative relationships with others across and within professional boundaries.
  • To offer the patient and families advice to manage toxicitys and symptoms related to their treatment and support to address their holistic needs.Education & learning
  • The post holder will supervise junior staff and participate in the teaching and assessing of pre and post registration students
  • To offer advice, support and education to clinical teams across the trust where appropriate
  • Act as a link nurse in key nursing roles to ensure the safe delivery of the SACT serviceLeadership & Management
  • This post holder will provide clinical leadership to support the delivery of evidence based patient centered care
  • Act as a role model demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership to others
  • They will take responsibility for the Quality Management of their designated areas with a specific emphasis on Infection Control, Leading a Nurse Led Service and Patient Safety.
  • Manage local resolution of patient concerns and complaints
  • Escalate risk/issues and effectively action to minimise future risks

  • Lead clinical auditsThe Network Services Directorate delivers outpatient Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatments (SACT) and supportive therapies for both solid tumours and haemato oncology malignancies across a six day service and in a number of areas, to include:

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Competent in the delivery of all SACT
  • Competent in Cannulation/Phlebotomy/CVAD
  • Previous experience in Solid Tumour and or Haemato-oncology

Desirable

  • Leadership and management experience
  • Experience of audit and research

Qualifications

Essential

  • 1st level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Degree in healthcare related subject
  • UKONS SACT Passport or NM6 995
  • Chemotherapy Administrations and Care.
  • Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care
  • ILS
  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Evidence of continued professional development

  • MSc Clinical Examination
  • MSc Clinical Diagnostics
  • NM6 999 Foundations in Cancer Care

Knowledge

Essential

  • Previous cancer nursing experience
  • Knowledge of various drugs and their interactions and side effects.
  • Knowledge of NMC code of conduct
