We have an exciting opportunity for clinically experience pharmacist to lead and further develop the well-established 7-day pharmacy service to the Acute medical units and the Emergency Department Technician led service.

This is a job share where you will be working alongside another Advance Pharmacist to effectively manage and supervise pharmacist working within the acute medical team.

Please note applicants should be available to work on Tuesdays and Fridays, which are critical team and meetings days.

You will play a key role in ensuring continuity of pharmaceutical care from the Emergency department to the acute medical units or medical wards, to facilitate smooth and rapid admissions and discharges.

The post holder will act as a specialist role model and an expert in the medical management within the acute and emergency medicine

It is an exciting time to join as we start the process of installing the BD Pyxis Medstation automated cabinet to the Emergency department. The post holder will play a key role in supporting the set ups.

Main duties of the job

To Support the Lead Pharmacist for Urgent and Emergency care to provide a safe and effective clinical service to Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital.

The post holder will be joining dynamic pharmacy team to lead, provide, manage and further develop the 7-day clinical pharmacy service to the acute medical units.

You will develop and evaluate the delivery of a responsive, proactive, patient-focused clinical pharmacy service to acute medical units, being an active member of the multidisciplinary team and thereby promoting the safe, appropriate and clinically effect use of medicines.

To deputise for the Lead Pharmacist for Urgent and Emergency Care at Pharmacy and Care Group level when required.

The post holder will have commitment of working shift patterns, as part of the extended hours service on the acute medical unit. This also includes being part of the on-call service as well as contributing to a comprehensive clinical pharmacy by working 1 in 6 weekends on the acute medical floor

Clinical skills and experience

Essential

  • Significant hospital clinical pharmacy experience including relevant experience in medical admission/emergency care
  • Teaching, mentoring and tutoring experience
  • Experience of working as part of multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care
  • Highly developed negotiation and influencing skills. To ensure adherence to drug treatment protocol/policies

Desirable

  • Service improvement and change management skills
  • Specialist knowledge of Emergency Medicine

Qualifications and training

Essential

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical council
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Registered Independent prescriber or willingness to complete
  • Accreditation of Practice/educational supervisor training programme or equivalent

Essential

  • Successful team player with the ability to respect and develop the skills of others
