Job summary

The General Surgery & Urology specialty is seeking a dedicated Cancer Pathway Navigator to join our team for a fixed-term period of 12 months. As the Cancer Pathway Navigator, you will play a vital role in ensuring a coordinated and efficient service for patients throughout their cancer pathway journey.

This role will involve active involvement from the suspicion of cancer stage, supporting the division in implementing early diagnostic pathways to achieve timely interventions for patients with suspected cancer.

Knowledge Requirements

Essential

  • Knowledge of Cancer Waiting Times standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritise workload
  • Ability to work well under pressure and remain calm in difficult situations
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information in a tactful and diplomatic way
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Ability to retrieve information form a wide range of sources and in different formats
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure
  • Ability to meet deadlines without compromising accuracy

Qualifications/Academic/ Craft/Professional

Essential

  • Good General Education with GCSE level English and Mathematics ECDL or equivalent experience
  • Qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience coordinating a patient workload

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working in a health care setting
  • Computer literate and a good understanding of computer packages e.g. word/excel
  • Ability to establish and maintain a patient tracking database

Desirable

  • Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams
  • Familiar with medical terminology
  • Ability to work in a demanding environment
