Job summary

Please note that this vacancy is pending approval from the Royal College. Interviews are due to take place on 2nd August 2024.

The urology department is looking for a well-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join their team. This post is designed to recruit a full time consultant (10PA post) to provide a range of services in Urology (Outpatient, Diagnostic and Operative) including participation in a 1 in 10 on call rota covering the University Hospital site (there are no Urology inpatients at Rugby).

University Hospital is a tertiary referral centre and provides a comprehensive urological service. We serve a population in excess of 1 million people in Coventry & Warwickshire (in partnership with George Eliot and South Warwickshire Hospitals). University Hospital is also a designated Trauma Centre. Its satellite hospital, St Cross Rugby is situated 10 miles east of University Hospital. No Urological care is currently delivered at St Cross - ambitious plans to create an Elective Care Centre means that this will change in the future. We work in collaboration with neighbouring Trusts in the Coventry and Warwickshire ICS in a Urology Area Network.

N.B. We reserve the right to close a vacancy before the closing date if we receive a high volume of applications or if there has been a change in organisational priorities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in conjunction with the existing general urologists to provide a sustainable service for the diagnosis and treatment of Prostate and Bladder cancer. The post holder would involve taking part in the on call services for urology on a 1 in 10 basis.

Each consultant surgeon has a minimum of two outpatient clinics per week. All clinics have support from dedicated, skilled, technical staff.

The new consultant would have access to scheduled theatre sessions in main theatres. There is potential for either diagnostic or in-patient theatre sessions at a mutually agreed frequency. Some elective Robotic lists are timetabled at the weekend. The new consultant will have an experienced consultant robotic mentor for the first year as a minimum for both weekday and weekend lists.

Attention and aspiration to lifelong learning will be supported by the Specialty Group and the Trust to demonstrate safe, effective, knowledge based clinical capabilities. The post holder will have a reflective approach to their own practice and will agree to a programme of continuing professional development which meets his/her and service provision requirements.

The successful applicant will undertake administrative duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of clinical areas. They will contribute to the effective leadership and management of the team encouraging constructive feedback from all involved.
