Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic Paediatric Registered Nurse to join our Paediatric Emergency Department. Ours is an evolving and continuously developing service which sees a wide array of presentations from injuries to acute illness.

Main duties of the job

You will assist our friendly multi-disciplinary team in the provision and maintenance of a seamless service, giving high-quality care to patients whilst contributing to the reduction of healthcare acquired infection. As a reflective practitioner, we will support you in developing your own capabilities and nursing knowledge.

As a Paediatric Emergency paediatric nurse you will work closely with the Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) which is co-located on the paediatric ward whilst also maintaining a close working relationship with the wider Paediatric Directorate, including Neptune Paediatric Ward, Paediatric Outpatients and the Neonatal Unit.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Paediatric Nurse with current entry on the NMC register.

Desirable

  • Current PILS or EPALS certificate or willingness to undertake in the future
  • Evidence of post qualification study
  • Trained to administer IV therapy peripherally/centrally
  • Phlebotomy/skin closure/cannulation/plastering competency

Knowledge & experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a ward team
  • Experience or awareness of child protection issues

Desirable

  • Experience of working with a paediatric emergency department/6 months acute nursing experience.
  • Evidence of supervising/managing junior members of staff/HCA's
  • Experience or awareness of change management
