Job summary

An exciting opportunity have arisen for an experienced Band 5 nurse role within our children's Ortho/Trauma Surgery Ward at the Royal London Children's Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust.

The Paediatric Ortho/Trauma Surgical ward is part of a versatile and dynamic service providing high quality holistic care with an emphasis on working in partnership with the children and their families. We look after trauma and surgical emergencies, as well as admitting elective surgical cases. We currently have an enhanced monitoring bay that looks after the most unwell children across the children's hospital, and acts as a link between the wards and our Paediatric Critical Care Unit.

Main duties of the job

There are opportunities to work within highly established inter professional teams with an emphasis on working in partnership with the children and their families.

The post holder will therefore have every opportunity to develop new skills and knowledge, working closely with all multi-disciplinary team members. Staff are also encouraged and given the opportunity to continue their professional development through attendance on relevant courses with both City and Southbank Universities.

Barts Health has a busy and demanding Children's service requiring staff to be flexible in their working. The post holder will be required to work within a challenging clinical environment and undertake shift work which will include nights and weekends.

Job responsibilities

To provide effective family centered nursing care to patients and their families. Ensure that evidence based practice is performed at all times, taking responsibility for updating own knowledge and skill in line with Trust policies and procedures and NMC code of professional conduct.

For newly qualified band 5 nurses, it will be an important step in consolidating practice and completing all relevant clinical competencies, receiving adequate support form colleagues.
