Job summary

The post holder will be a member of the CAMHS Early Intervention Service (EIS) within Camden EIS. The role of the post holder would be to provide CAMHS input to the EIS, contributing to the overall development and running of the service. Clinically they will be responsible for working with young people (aged 14 - 21) who are Camden clients. The person will be accountable for a defined caseload of clients (up to 24), supported by the EIS multi-disciplinary team and will receive regular supervision from the Lead EIS CAMHS Nurse and Team Lead (where appropriate). They will be expected to work jointly with other members of the team offering specialist CAMHS advice, consultation and training as required. The post holder may supervise junior members of staff, take part in the general duty rota for Camden EIS (CAMHS and Adult) and be accountable for their work.

The post holder would maintain strong links with Camden CAMHS through attending workshops held by the Tavistock Clinic and the Camden CAMHS professional discipline meetings. The post holder will work alongside existing and developing networks within Camden CAMHS, particularly those related to outreach/community work and contribute to the development of these.

Main duties of the job

1. Undertake generic multi-disciplinary assessments of the mental health and wellbeing needs of service users within a therapeutic framework.

2. Participate in the care planning process under supervision within the context of multidisciplinary team including case reviews.

3. Develop service user participation and engagement.

4. Develop and maintain close links with service users and enable understanding of the availability of services to clients

5. Ensure service users receive suitable information regarding their diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis and ongoing care needs.

6. Communicate in a competent and sensitive manner, complex informationconcerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care where clients may be volatile and aggressive and/or resistant to treatment.

7. Participate in case conferences, review and planning meetings including with external agencies as appropriate.

8. Keep up-to-date and accurate client records of all written and electronically stored personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

9. Establish and sustain effective links with other mental health workers, both in the community and hospital-based services.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree level as a minimum plus some specialist and practical knowledge equating to postgraduate diploma level
  • Registration with HCPC or relevant professional body as either a nurse, occupational therapist or social worker

Experience

Essential

  • Some clinical experience of assessing complex mental health and wellbeing needs of young people and/or experience of working with young people with psychosis
  • Some background understanding of the changing NHS and Social Care environment and the challenges they face
  • Experience of supporting young people with complex mental health needs and their families/carers over time.
  • Experience of working across networks to support young people and their families/carers
  • Participation in clinical supervision

Desirable

  • Some experience of involvement in project work e.g. quality improvement
  • Experience of working with service users and the Mental Health Act
  • Contribution to practical training of other service staff

Skills

Essential

  • Personal duty of care in relation to equipment or resources
  • Basic keyboard skills for updating client records
  • Ability to manage own clinical case load under supervision

Desirable

  • Willingness to contribute to strategic and business planning
