Job summary
You will join a multidisciplinary orthopaedic team inclusive of orthopaedic surgeons, clinical nurse specialists, occupational therapists, play specialists and psychologists. You will specialize in the in and out patient management of children within the limb reconstruction service. You will be intergral to the pre-operative assessment clinics, preparing patients and families for upcoming orthopaedic surgery. Post operatively you will take a leading role in their rehabilitation and discharge on to local physiotherapy services. You will work alongside the surgeon or lead physiotherapist in outpatient clinics, providing ongoing information and advice to local teams. The caseload includes a vast variety of complex conditions and treatment of children with both congenital and acquired limb deformities.The post additionally offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced advanced physiotherapy practitioners working in Physiotherapy led outpatient clinics. There is a strong commitment to continuing professional development and clinical effectiveness with regular in-service training and a comprehensive supervision and appraisal structure. The post holder will additionally be required to support and supervise Band 6 rotational staff within the Orthopaedic team.Previous clinical experience working within paediatric orthopaedics is essential for this post.
Main duties of the job
To provide a highly specialised physiotherapy service to children attending GOSH under the care of the orthopaedic service and, in particular, the limb reconstruction unit. To collaborate with colleagues in the multidisciplinary team (MDT), within GOSH and externally, to plan, deliver and evaluate all aspects of the patient journey. This is inclusive of outpatient consultant led clinics, pre operative assessment, post operative inpatient management, through to discharge home and ongoing follow ups.
To provide specialist physiotherapy assessments and treatment progression to patients attending orthopaedic consultant led out-patient clinics. Where appropriate this will include physiotherapy management and advice to the orthopaedic MDT and community therapy services.To undertake a leading role in evaluating and developing the physiotherapy service to all patients under the care of the limb reconstruction unit.To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form an accurate physiotherapy diagnosis and prognosis in a wide range of highly complex conditions, to recommend the best course of intervention, and to develop comprehensive discharge plans.
To be proactive in advancing the profile / credibility and reputation of Paediatric Orthopaedic Physiotherapy within the trust and nationally.To supervise and support junior staff (Band 6 and assistants) with the in patient management of post operative orthopaedic and more specifically limb reconstruction patients.
