Job summary

We are looking for a dedicated and passionate person to continue to develop our wonderful Spiritual Care service and to lead our teams who provide the religious, spiritual and pastoral needs of our service users, families and staff across all areas in the Trust.

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, Spiritual Care Team, comprises of members from a diverse range of faith backgrounds. We are a committed and supportive team who respect each other and strive to achieve the desired outcome of providing compassionate spiritual care support to our patients and staff.

Main duties of the job

As Trust Lead for Spiritual Care will need to outline the Trust's vision on Spiritual Care and how this will be delivered across the Trust. You'llactively promote a culture of care which reflects Somerset NHS Foundation Trust's values and leadership behaviours.

You'll support the integration of the current three chaplaincy teams following the merger and support the team to work towards standards set out by the Department of Health and the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplains.

This is great opportunity to lead, develop and manage an effective, safe and timely service which facilitates patients, service users and carers in requesting and receiving spiritual care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MA (or equivalent) with demonstrable outcomes of learning relevant to healthcare chaplaincy that includes systematic study in any of the following fields: counselling, pastoral care, psychology, psychotherapy, religious studies or theology.
  • Endorsement to practice as a healthcare chaplain by a recognized/established sponsoring faith community or belief group.
  • Evidence of annual continued professional development relevant to healthcare chaplaincy to UKBHC standards

Desirable

  • Qualification (or working towards) in pastoral supervision (such as those recommended by APSE), coaching, management, or leadership.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive track record of working at a senior chaplain level with a wide range of groups.
  • Extensive experience of professionally supervised clinical practice as an autonomous practitioner healthcare chaplain.
  • Experience of working at regional and national level relevant to health and social care.
  • Proven responsibility for professional leadership and operational management of a diverse group of healthcare chaplains.

Desirable

  • Planning and delivering successful organizational change and/or service improvement.

Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Working knowledge of major faith communities and belief groups in relation to the healthcare context.
  • Involvement in audit and/or service evaluation.
  • Leadership skills to enable change, motivate others and foster an effective professional community based on empowerment and collaboration.
