Job summary

We are seeking dentists to join our team in delivering Urgent and Emergency Dental Care for patients in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly unable to access a General Dental Practitioner, and for visitors to the county requiring emergency care.

A salaried position without the stress of UDAs and clawback but with the benefit of an NHS pension, this post would suit an experienced dentist seeking to refocus their dental career and make a genuine difference to those who need us most in our local community.

Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing urgent dental care for patients (both children and adults) unable to access a General Dental Practitioner
  • Actively engaging with Smile Together teams and participating in audit activities, planning and development sessions, in-house meetings etc
  • Being responsible for safe working and practice on a day-to-day basis in sites of clinical activity, ensuring compliance with clinical governance and legislation, appropriate health, safety and security procedures within the work area, and report accidents, incidents and near misses using the Smile Together incident reporting procedure
  • Participating in community dental and oral health promotion activities

Salary and benefits are pro rata if not working full time our standard full-time contract is 37.5 hours per week excluding breaks.

Key accountabilities: Providing urgent and emergency dental care for patients (both children and adults) unable to access a General Dental Practitioner Treating target numbers of patients Providing excellence of service including written clinical detail enabling colleagues to provide face-to-face treatment or other interventions at future appointments Actively engaging with Smile Together teams and participating in peer review, clinical audit activities, planning and development sessions and in-house meetings etc Developing relationships within the Urgent Dental Care Managed Clinical Network Being responsible for safe working and practice on a day-to-day basis in sites of clinical activity, ensuring compliance with clinical governance and legislation, appropriate health, safety and security procedures within the work area, and reporting accidents, incidents and near misses using the Smile Together incident reporting procedure 2 of 2 Undertaking other reasonable duties as requested by the Clinical Directors and Smile Together Management Team To work with the Clinical Directors and other operational and clinical leads to ensure your experience and knowledge helps to drive service improvement Maintaining and developing your clinical competency and continuing professional/personal development according to agreed training needs via our Smile Together Training Academy, other external educational providers and Perform (appraisal and review system) To develop a Personal Development Plan as described in the GDC Standards To support colleagues in the delivery of urgent and emergency care services including temperature checks with co-workers in this clinical environment Working alongside clinical and professional support colleagues in facilitating ongoing organisational change and development

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Competency in the common aspects of clinical dentistry and experience of a wide range of dental procedures acquired through training and clinical experience

Desirable

  • Experience in treating a range of oral conditions in various primary healthcare dental settings

Qualifications

Essential

  • Have a Bachelor of Dental Surgery
  • Have an NHS performer number
  • Full registration with the General Dental Council and Professional Indemnity Insurance

Desirable

  • Have an appropriate higher dental qualification suitable for the role
