Are you looking for an exciting opportunity? Wirral University Teaching Hospital is delighted to offer the opportunity to join our team within Emergency Medicine as a trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP).

We are looking to enhance and develop our team of ACPs, providing an opportunity for those who are experienced in emergency care to develop their clinical practice, knowledge and leadership skills while delivering a high standard of care to our patients.

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic, compassionate individuals who will commit to attaining a MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice as well as completing the Royal College of Emergency Medicine ACP curriculum and portfolio. The advanced Clinical Practice apprenticeship programme will commence in Autumn 2024. You must have relevant Emergency or Urgent care experience and be at least 5 years post professional qualification as a Nurse and/or Paramedic. ACP Trainees with varied levels of experience are welcome to apply.

This role covers a variety of shift times including weekdays, weekends and nights.

Please note that the salary during apprenticeship programme is paid at a band 6, on successful completion of programme and through preceptorship band 7 will be paid. On successfully completion of preceptorship and agreed competencies the candidate will be paid at band 8a.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an integral member of the medical team working collaboratively with nursing and allied healthcare professionals undertaking advanced roles and responsibilities traditionally the remit of junior medical staff under the direction of the Consultant in charge of the patients care.

Must show ability to exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy.

Develop the freedom to act and make critical judgements to satisfy the expectations and demands of the Advanced Practitioner role.

To provide holistic care for patients, making clinical diagnosis and decisions based on clinical examination skills, evidence-based practice, and trust protocols.

To develop and maintain supportive working relationships with medical, nursing and operational colleagues in order to ensure continuity and quality of care.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional Registration (NMC, HCPC)
  • Hold a professional degree (BSc)
  • Hold minimum of 5 year post qualification experience
  • Be prepared to undertake MSc in Advanced Practise within structured training programme
  • Be prepared to undertake Non-Medical prescribing module.

Desirable

  • Achieved ALS
  • 5 years experience in Acute and Emergency Care
  • MSc in Advanced Practise

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Has the ability to influence the strategic long- and short-term goals of the Directorate/Trust
  • Ability to work effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team and Skilled to work across multi-agency and professional boundaries
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills
  • Working knowledge of the current professional NHS issues contributing to Service Development
  • Detailed knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and its application
  • Ability to work under pressure

Desirable

  • Undertaken a management programme
  • Ability to cope working in a stressful environment and with emotional/aggressive patients/carers
