We are a growing, rapidly developing, dynamic, patient-focused provider of a wide range (outpatients, IAPT and primary care) of services for the NHS. Do you have previous experience working in a role with extensive focus on governance and compliance? Do you want to play the leading management role within DHC developing our governance systems and services? It will be challenging and busy but also varied, interesting and rewarding. We have an excellent, supportive management team and Board who are all committed to the delivery of quality care.

You will lead on governance and delivering an effective service which supports management, colleagues and associated clinicians to implement, maintain, evidence and advise on the highest standards of clinical and corporate governance, compliant with ICB, CQC and NHS England requirements and statutory obligations.

Working in a small team within the DHC Head Office team based at Holmhurst Medical Centre in Redhill, Surrey, you will be responsible for defining the governance framework and processes for the organisation for our range of services.

Main duties of the job

The Governance and Compliance Manager will work closely with the CEO and Medical Director to define governance processes, facilitating discussions and advising colleagues on how best practice might be adopted, document those processes as they are agreed and see through to delivery to ensure we offer the highest quality care to our patients, consultants and teams.

The Governance and Compliance Manager defines the governance framework and processes for the organisation and our range of services; provides oversight of governance and the functions undertaken within each service team and corporate function; trains managers and staff on their approach to governance and aspects of governance; leads our relationship with the CQC, regulatory bodies and the ICB Quality Team; carries out Root Cause Analysis investigations; reports on governance achievement internally and externally identifying improvements; systematically audits governance processes to provide assurance to the Board and managers on standards and compliance with CQC expectations; ensures policies and procedures are kept up to date and relevant; and delivers a monthly governance dashboard showing performance across all key aspects of governance.

To be successful in the role, you will need similar previous experience working at a senior (leader) level.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a role with an extensive focus on governance
  • Experience of leading on corporate and clinical governance
  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.
  • Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on engagement.

  • Member of relevant professional body

Essential

  • Must be able to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and articulate complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups verbally and in written documentation.
  • Ability to analyse complex facts and situations and develop a range of options.
  • Ability to think in different contexts. Demonstrated capability to plan over short, medium and long-term timeframes and adjust plans and resource requirements accordingly.
  • Strategic thinking ability to anticipate problems before they arise.
  • Must be proactive with ability to use initiative to decide relevant actions and make recommendations with the aim of improving deliverables and compliance to policies, working to tight and often changing timescales.
  • Experience of identifying and interpreting national policy. Experience of researching best practice and interpreting its relevance and processes/ practices which could be implemented successfully to achieve system reform (advising on policy implementation).

Skills

Essential

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with intermediate keyboard skills.
  • Presentation skills and the ability to demonstrate and represent service to ICB and CQC.
  • Must own and be able to prioritise own work effectively and be able to direct activities of others.
