Job summary

A vacancy for a permanent part time Associate Lecturer has arisen on our highly regarded Professional Doctorate in Child, Community & Educational Psychology [M4] course. This is an exciting 2.5 day a week role [18.75 hours] that will support the next generation of Educational Psychologists in their professional training. We are seeking an experienced HCPC-registered Educational Psychologist (EP) to join our outstanding team of relational, reflective and collaborative tutors.

Main duties of the job

The Associate Lecturer role available has a particular emphasis on teaching, supervision , assessment and student recruitment and selection. We are keen to hear from practitioners with an established research and publication record, skills in supporting research at doctoral level and/or an interest in developing their scope of practice in this area. A capacity to offer supervision, teach and assess trainees in a relational and reflective manner is essential.

The post-holder will contribute to course teaching and work closely with the rest of the team in curriculum development when required. This will include ensuring inclusion, equity, disadvantage and discrimination are appropriately addressed and may involve taking a lead in the planning of identified course activities.

Previous teaching/supervisory experience in higher education or in the public sector would be an asset; and contribution to and passion for initial Educational Psychology training is key to the role. A commitment to anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive applied psychological practice is essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate their dedication to social justice for all children, young people, their families and the practitioners who work with them in everything they do. We are especially eager for interest from candidates from historically excluded and/or currently under-represented backgrounds to better meet the needs of the service users and students that we serve.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Appropriately qualified to teach the discipline at the required academic level
  • Masters level qualification or equivalent required to teach and supervise at a doctoral level
  • UK recognised qualification in specific profession (e.g., social work, child psychotherapy, educational psychology)
  • Professional registration as relevant (e.g., HCPC)

Desirable

  • A PD/PhD in a related field

Experience

Essential

  • Post qualification experience as required by the relevant professional and regulatory bodies
  • Substantial experience of teaching students in higher education or equivalent
  • Experience of research and supervision, as required by the Trust and/or relevant validating body
  • Understanding and experience of research and supervision of projects addressed to questions of equity, equality, diversity, inclusion, disadvantage, discrimination etc

Desirable

  • Experience of doctoral supervision preferably with one or more completions
  • Experience of quality assurance, academic governance and the student experience
  • Experience of doctoral examining
  • Track record of writing for publication

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and ability to convey complex ideas in teaching and learning environments
  • Capacity to engage students from a wide range of educational, cultural and social backgrounds and ensure issues of equality, diversity and inclusion are attended to across all aspects of role
  • Able to manage own time, and plan workload of administration team members effectively, to ensure completion of tasks
  • Able to analyse complex problems and develop practical and workable solutions to address them
  • Able to effectively build and manage constructive relationships with faculty, staff and students; encouraging an open dialogue with team members
  • High level of attention to detail and awareness of the relevant regulations, policies and procedures applicable to the academic nature of the role.

  • Familiarity with the institutional procedures and processes surrounding doctoral progression and completion, e.g. research ethics approval, annual review of progress, examiner appointments
